Introduction

• Bapatla District in Andhra Pradesh boasts abundant Marine, Inland, and Brackish water Shrimp resources. It encompasses 20,389 acres of Aquaculture and supports 7360 Aqua farmers. Additionally, the district features Marine shrimp resources along a 74km coastline with 2909 Fishing crafts, yielding a production of 2.19 Lakh MT in the year 2023-24. 
• Reports from the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) indicate that in 2022-23, Bapatla district exported 9493.95 MT of Frozen shrimp valued at Rs 526.24 Crs. Notably, Bapatla plays a pivotal role in Andhra Pradesh's top position in Shrimp production. To encourage domestic consumption of Shrimp, the Department of Fisheries has introduced the Fish Andhra-Fit Andhra initiative, promoting these products through various social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.

Product Development

• Workshops and Trainings: 64 training sessions have been conducted, benefiting 768 trainees by enhancing their skills.
  
• Product Diversification: Various shrimp products like Head On, Tail on, Deveined, Peeled Deveined, and Butterfly cut have been developed, totaling 5 prototypes for market testing.
  
• Quality Standardization Tools: Tools and Tool kits such as EIC, MPEDA, ELISA, In-house Labs, and Integrated Aqua labs have been provided to ensure consistent quality of shrimp products.
  
• Infrastructure Enhancements: Physical infrastructure improvements include the establishment of Shrimp Hatcheries, Pre-processing plants, Ice plants, Biofloc systems, RAS (Recirculating Aquaculture Systems), Fin fish hatcheries, Polychaete hatcheries, Fishing harbors, FLCs (Fish Landing Centers), and Aqua parks to enhance production capabilities.
• UID Registrations: Registrations for UID of Product, including Organic certification and Product Code, have been facilitated through MPEDA, ASPADA, and CAA for product traceability and quality assurance.
  
• Branding: Establishing a unique brand name such as "Fish Andhra."
• Promotion Strategies: Promoting the district as synonymous with the One District One Product (ODOP) concept through various channels like social media, print media, and digital platforms. Examples include "Fish Andhra" and "Fit Andhra."
• Quality Assurance: Ensuring quality through measures like quality testing labs and partnerships with organizations like MPEDA and EIC.
  
• Introduction of Novel Technologies: Implementing new technologies to enhance production efficiency. Examples include Biofloc technology, HDPE Sheet culture, RAS, Blood worms Production, Shrimp Toilet, and Airblowers.

• Increase in Government Procurement: The state government is boosting procurement through Fish Andhra hubs. MPEDA is actively engaging in meetings with both domestic and international buyers and sellers to promote shrimp exports. Recently, a seafood expo was held in Calcutta.
• GeM Registration: Registrations on GeM are facilitated through APSADA, MPEDA, and CAA.
• Domestic Trade Facilitation: Buyer-Seller Meets are being regularly organized, including meetings with beneficiaries of Mini Fish Retail Outlets, Hubs, and Spokes to promote fish and shrimp sales. MPEDA continues to engage in meetings with domestic and international buyers and sellers. A recent seafood expo was conducted in Calcutta.
