One District One Product (ODOP) - Mango Pulp

• Mango, known as the king of fruits and India's national fruit, is a major agricultural product in Andhra Pradesh, particularly in Chittoor District. This district serves as a significant hub for mango cultivation and is recognized for its cluster of mango pulp industries, identified for promotion under the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative. Mango cultivation has deep roots in Chittoor District, with prevalent varieties including Totapuri, Neelum, Beneshan, Lalbhahar, and Mulgova.
• The Totapuri variety, well-suited for processing into pulp, has seen increased cultivation, leading to the establishment of fruit processing units. Two entrepreneurs, Mr. Haneef and Mr. Sattar, pioneered a small-scale fruit processing unit in Damalcheruvu in 1965, named Hanstar Fruit Products. Initially, the unit had a capacity of 50 metric tons per season. With the expansion of mango cultivation, the processing industry flourished, resulting in the establishment of 51 mango pulp units by 2002.
• The introduction of Agri Export Zones marked a new phase, fostering the establishment of new aseptic pulp units and the conversion of traditional canning industries into aseptic pulp units. By 2023, Chittoor District is projected to have an annual processing capacity of 5 lakh metric tons of mango pulp.

One District One Product - Mango Varieties

• The Totapuri mango, also known as Ginimoothi, is a popular cultivar primarily found in South India and to some extent in Sri Lanka. It is recognized by various names such as Bangalore, Collector, Kallamai, Kili Mooku, Gilli, Mukku, Ottu, and Sandersha.
• Totapuri pulp concentrate is created by evaporating water from mango pulp under vacuum conditions. This mango variety is primarily used for producing juices, nectars, drinks, jams, fruit cheese, or can be enjoyed on its own or with cream as a delightful dessert.

Alphonso Mango

• Alphonso mangoes are characterized by their yellow skin and rich, succulent taste. In contrast, Tommy Atkins mangoes have a milder flavor. Alphonso mangoes are known for their soft and tender texture, while Tommy Atkins mangoes are more fibrous and tough.
• The fruit typically weighs between 150 and 300 grams and features a creamy, tender texture with a non-fibrous, juicy pulp. As Alphonso mangoes ripen, their skin transforms into a golden-yellow hue with a hint of red at the top.

Aseptic Mango Puree

• Aseptic Mango Puree has a shelf life of 18 months from the manufacturing date if unopened and stored below 77°F away from sunlight. Once opened, the puree can be refrigerated for up to 10 days or frozen for the remaining shelf life.

Raspuri Mango

• Raspuri mangoes are predominantly cultivated and consumed in the historical Mysuru region of Karnataka.
• Similar to Alphanso and Totapuri varieties, Raspuri mangoes find their way into various culinary delights such as ice creams, yogurts, smoothies, juices, jams, and jellies.
