1.Infinite permeability(u=infinite) which mean that
it doesn’t require any excitation current to establish
flux , but in practical the t/f draws magnetizing
current of 5% of full load current.
2.The core is linear , i.e avg. area under BH-curve is
zero . but in practical it is not possible due to non
linearity of core materiel.
3.coupling factor between primary and secondary is
unity , i.e all the flux should link with both primary
and secondary windings , but in practical there will
be a leakage flux of 5%.
4.The resistance of the windings should be zero i.e
copper loss should be zero . But there will exist
some amount of resistance.

FAQs on PPT: Ideal Transformer - Basic Electrical Technology - Electrical Engineering (EE)

1. What is an ideal transformer?
Ans. An ideal transformer is a theoretical concept used in electrical engineering that represents a transformer with perfect efficiency and without any losses. It is assumed to have no resistance, leakage inductance, or core losses, resulting in no power dissipation.
2. How does an ideal transformer work?
Ans. An ideal transformer works based on the principles of electromagnetic induction. When an alternating current (AC) flows through the primary coil, it creates a changing magnetic field, which in turn induces a voltage in the secondary coil. This voltage is proportional to the turns ratio between the primary and secondary coils.
3. What is the turns ratio of an ideal transformer?
Ans. The turns ratio of an ideal transformer refers to the ratio of the number of turns in the primary coil to the number of turns in the secondary coil. It determines how the voltage and current are transformed between the primary and secondary sides of the transformer.
4. Is the efficiency of an ideal transformer 100%?
Ans. Yes, the efficiency of an ideal transformer is considered to be 100%. Since it has no resistance, leakage inductance, or core losses, all the power supplied to the primary side is perfectly transferred to the secondary side without any losses.
5. Can an ideal transformer step up or step down the voltage?
Ans. Yes, an ideal transformer can step up or step down the voltage depending on the turns ratio. If the turns ratio is greater than 1, the transformer will step up the voltage. Conversely, if the turns ratio is less than 1, the transformer will step down the voltage.
