Sialkot, Punjab, British India.
He is a Pakistani American, Novelist, poet 
and essayist. He is a resident of Texas, his 
works are primarily magical realism 
blending fantasy and harsh realism.
This poem is based on the poet’s  own 
journey experiences and observations 
through open window while he was flying

Ok when you go in the sky and look down 
from different altitude, you will find the 
description of earth and cities like here 
described in the poem.
THEME Of The POEM
• The poem is about the way earth looks from different altitudes. It is divided into 
three parts. From the certain height in the sky, the city grows unplanned.
• From ten thousands feet, it says “water attracts human beings to grow 
civilisation.”
• From above six miles, we come to know ‘water is more than land’
• The poet is upset to see borders, to create fences and to see that people hate 
each other for shallow reasons.

it was clear why the city
had developed the way it had,
seeing it scaled six inches to the mile.
There seemed an inevitability
about what on ground had looked haphazard,
unplanned and without style
