The Industrial Revolution era is a critical period in history that occurred 1760-1850. The period saw various sector changes. In doing so, it obliterated previous techniques and practices utilized in these sectors, creating a revolution that produced numerous benefits.
First, the revolution facilitated the coming up of inventors. In the change from an economy, relying on hand to one that relied on industries and machines, numerous inventions were made that changed the societies. Inventors such as James Hargreaves in 1764 invented the spinning jenny that aided in the simultaneous production of threads. To promote the operation of machines, locomotives, and steamboats, Thomas Newcomen invented the steam engine. The development of telegrams and the stock exchange brought life to the communication and banking industries.
Secondly, the inventions created a need for labor. The new industries that cropped up required employees for the many jobs formed to operate machines. The opportunities saw high numbers of individuals including immigrants that previously relied on agriculture as their sole means of income take up factory jobs. These jobs provided a higher income to some employees especially the middle-income individuals more than what they earned in the villages and provided an alternative way of life.
Thirdly, the different inventions in the revolution led to increased production of products. The change to factory production where the use of machines such as the spinning jenny and steam powered machines, resulted in the production of large volumes of goods in various varieties such as food, woolen clothes, and sources of fuel. The products prices became cheap; the people would afford them and increased their demand. Moreover, to support the bulging economy due to these industries, necessities such as transport networks, communication mechanisms, and banking industries became crucial.
Fourthly, the increased use of machines and high demand of products resulted in the creation of a stronger source of power. The development of the steam power engine by James Watt is the top achievement of the revolution. The invention improved on the earlier designs to come up with an efficient steam engine that would support the increased production processes. Both the factories and transportation sectors used the engine to support the growth of these industries to steamboats and locomotives and in running machines in the industries.
The revolution improved the lives of the people. The first thing is their health improved. The invention of new methods of farming elicited the production of more foods and in great varieties. These foods provided a balanced diet to these people, eliminating the various illnesses affecting them hence, become healthy. Increased availability of food reduced the death rates and increased their population. Moreover, industrialization provided higher wages to the individuals, that allowed the people to live better lives, improve their dressing, marry and raise children. The factory system caused the people to move to towns closer to their jobs. Here, they enjoyed an alternate lifestyle such as availability of power, some of them benefited from housing from their employers and presence of running water.
The revolution led to the growth of transportation and technology. Due to increased number of factories and efficient methods of farming, the availability of products swelled. Products such as raw materials, food products and movement of people elicited the need for other transportation methods other than canals. Therefore, the development of steam engines opened up locomotive and water transport using steamboats, while construction of truck lines opened roads in cities and towns.
Conclusively, it is certain that the Industrial Revolution had a huge impact on the various countries. The industries, transport systems, and inventions drew positive effects such as influencing the lives of the people, developing the economy and bringing progress.
