1. Which of the following are closed curves? Which of them are simple?

Solution:

The figures (ii), (iii), (iv), (vi) and (vii) are closed curves and the figures (ii), (iii), (iv) and (vi) are simple closed
curves.

2. Define perimeter of a closed figure.
Solution:

The length of the boundary of a closed figure is known as its perimeter.

3. Find the perimeter of each of the following shapes:

Solution:

We know that perimeter is the sum of lengths of all the sides of a closed figure.

(i) Perimeter of the given figure = 4 + 2 + 1 + 5 = 12 cm

(ii) Perimeter of the given figure = 23 + 35 + 40 + 35 = 133 cm

(iii) Perimeter of the given figure = 15 + 15 + 15 + 15 = 60 cm

(iv) Perimeter of the given figure = 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 15 cm

FAQs on Mensuration (Exercise 20.1) RD Sharma Solutions - Mathematics (Maths) Class 6

1. What is mensuration?
Ans. Mensuration is a branch of mathematics that deals with the measurement of geometric figures, such as length, area, volume, and perimeter.
2. How can I find the area of a rectangle?
Ans. The area of a rectangle can be found by multiplying its length and width. The formula for the area of a rectangle is A = length × width.
3. What is the difference between perimeter and area?
Ans. Perimeter is the measurement of the boundary of a shape, while area is the measurement of the space enclosed by the shape. Perimeter is measured in linear units, whereas area is measured in square units.
4. How can I calculate the volume of a cube?
Ans. The volume of a cube can be calculated by multiplying the length, width, and height of the cube. The formula for the volume of a cube is V = length × width × height.
5. How can I find the circumference of a circle?
Ans. The circumference of a circle can be found by multiplying its diameter by π (pi) or by multiplying twice the radius by π. The formula for the circumference of a circle is C = π × diameter or C = 2π × radius.
