There was only one space,
To lurk from father's scolding,
And to escape
From his well-oiled cane,
That was mother's lap.
She hid all our mischievous business,
And our gang had ' political protection '
There was only one full 'treatment '
To all 'pains and sufferings'
That was her touch ,
All wounds were healed
All worries vanished
When she wrapped with her arms,
There was no 'No' in her crude dictionary
Tactfully we offered
Diplomatically she did accept
We had an eternal pact
That could never be broken.
