• Protocols used in e-mail Service:
→ Users receive and send messages using standardized protocols that make it possible for emails to travel between computers.

A protocol is a set of rules that are needed for communication.
→ There are three types of protocols used by e-mail service:

♠ Simple message transfer protocol (SMTP): This enables the actual sending of messages.

♠ Post Office Protocol (POP)

♠ IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol)

POP and IAMP allows the users to retrieve information instantly.

• Important parts of Email

→ Message body: The body of the message may consist of words, number, attachments, special characters or anything you want to insert in the letter.

→ E-mail address: The address of the person(s) to whom you want to send the message.

Example: editor@cbse.com

An e-mail address consists of four parts:

♠ The username: The username is the name given by the user (the recipient) as per his/her choice. In the example 'editor' is the username.

♠ The symbol: This symbol ‘@’ is pronounced as ‘at the rate’ and this remains same in every email address.

♠ The hostname: The hostname is also called the domain name. In the example, hostname is ‘cbse’.

♠ The top level domain: In the example, .com is TLD which means commercial.

→ Field associated with an e mail Message: The email client may typically consist of four important fields:

♠ To: field is used to write the email address of the person to whom the message is to be sent.

♠ Cc: field is optional and is used to send a message to multiple additional addresses.

♠ Bcc: field is also optional and is used to send a message to multiple additional addresses.

♠ Subject: field is used to mention short title for what is included in the body of the message.

• The difference between Cc and Bcc: field is decided in terms of visibility.

→ The address in Bcc: field is termed as blind carbon copy, the addresses mentioned in this field are not visible to the recipients of the “To:” and the “Cc:” fields.

FAQs on Revision Notes of Web Services, Information & Computer Technology, Class 9 - Information & Computer Technology (Class 9) - Notes & Video

1. What are web services in information and computer technology?
Ans. Web services in information and computer technology refer to a standardized way of communication between different software applications over the internet. These services allow different systems to communicate and exchange data, making it easier for developers to integrate different applications and create more complex and powerful software solutions.
2. How do web services work?
Ans. Web services work based on a client-server model. The client, which can be a software application or a user interface, sends a request to the server for a specific service or data. The server then processes the request and sends back the response to the client. This communication is typically done using standards such as XML (Extensible Markup Language) or JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) for data exchange and protocols like HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) for communication.
3. What are the advantages of using web services?
Ans. There are several advantages of using web services in information and computer technology. Firstly, they allow for easy integration and interoperability between different software applications, making it possible to create complex and distributed systems. Secondly, web services are platform-independent, meaning they can be used on different operating systems and hardware devices. Additionally, they provide a standardized way of communication, making it easier for developers to understand and implement. Finally, web services can be easily scaled and extended, allowing for future growth and enhancements.
4. What are some examples of web services?
Ans. Some examples of web services include: 1. RESTful APIs: These are web services that follow the principles of Representational State Transfer (REST) architecture. They allow systems to interact with each other using standard HTTP methods like GET, POST, PUT, and DELETE. 2. SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) Web Services: SOAP is a protocol for exchanging structured information in web services using XML. It allows for more complex and feature-rich communication between systems. 3. JSON-RPC: JSON-RPC is a lightweight remote procedure call protocol that uses JSON for data serialization. It enables seamless communication between different systems using simple and human-readable data formats.
5. How can web services be secured?
Ans. Web services can be secured using various techniques. Some common methods include: 1. Authentication: Implementing mechanisms such as username/password authentication or token-based authentication to verify the identity of the client accessing the web service. 2. Encryption: Using SSL/TLS (Secure Sockets Layer/Transport Layer Security) protocols to encrypt the communication between the client and the server, ensuring that the data exchanged remains confidential. 3. Authorization: Setting up access control rules and permissions to restrict certain operations or data access to authorized users only. 4. Input validation: Implementing strict input validation mechanisms to prevent common security vulnerabilities like SQL injection or cross-site scripting attacks. These security measures, along with regular security audits and updates, can help protect web services from potential threats and ensure the integrity and confidentiality of data.
