RAJASTHAN

  •  MoU for self help group loan between Rajivika and Punjab National Bank
  • An agreement was reached on providing women self-help group loans between Rajivika and Punjab National Bank.
  • ​Under Rajeevika, 8 lakh women families of 75,000 self-help groups are employed in 134 Panchayat Samitis of the state. According to the agreement between Punjab National Bank and Rajivika, the group of all 506 branches working in Punjab National Bank, Rajasthan To open an account on time and provide credit facility. In which the special dividend will be obtained from the branch of Dhaulpur Churu Bharatpur Udaipur district.
  • ​The agreement is for 3 years under which a loan amount of about 80 to 100 crore will be made available from 8000 to 10000 groups. On behalf of Rajasthan Rural Livelihood Development Council, Secretary, Rural Development, Mr. Rohit Kumar Singh and Punjab Signed by Mrs Kalpana Gupta, General Manager, National Bank. Shri Ashwani Dalvi, President of Lalit Kala Academy, Rajasthan
  • ​The state government has issued an order to honor Ashwini (Resolve) Dalvi as the President of Lalit Kala Akademi, Rajasthan. According to the order, Mr. Dalvi's tenure will be for two years.

 

GUJARAT

  •  Single Window Clearance Act: Officers to face fines for delay.
  • For the first time, Gujarat government has decided to penalize and fine officials who hold back various clearances for starting or running industries in state under the new proposed Gujarat Single Window Clearance Act. The act is being brought with an aim to expedite processes for issuance of various licenses, clearances and certificates required for setting up a business and to provide an investor-friendly environment in the state.
  • A senior officer close to the development said, "Under the Gujarat Single Window Clearance Act for the first time officials will be fined from Rs5,000 to Rs25,000 or more, as also facing departmental action if they do not clear applications in the stipulated time.''

  

MAHARASHTRA

  •  Maharashtra government tables witness protection bill  
  • The state government tabled a bill which aims to provide security and protection to witnesses and their relatives in criminal trials.
    Under the bill, Maharashtra Witness Protection and Security Act, 2017 the state government will form witnesses' protection committees at district, state, metropolitan area levels in the state and this committee will decide on providing protection to the witnesses who complaints of threat to him or his family. The bill will not only provide protection to witnesses during a trial, it will also provide protection during investigations as well.
  • The bill also prescribes a jail term upto three years or fine of Rs 5,000 to anyone including the police officials who disclose the names and addresses of witnesses who have been provided police protection till the disposal of the case.

 

 MADHYA PRADESH

  •  Madhya Pradesh: Notices to online retailers for selling lizard genitals  
  • The special task force (STF) of Madhya Pradesh forest department's wildlife wing has sent notices to four online retailers for allegedly selling dried hemipenis of monitor lizards' and other wildlife articles.  
  • Notices have been sent to Snapdeal.com, Indiamart.com, cartcomparison.com and wishnbuy.com under Section 52 (attempted abetment) of the Wildlife Protection Act.
  • The special task force (STF) of Madhya Pradesh forest department's wildlife wing has sent notices to four online retailers for allegedly selling dried hemipenis of monitor lizards' and other wildlife articles.

  

BIHAR

  •  Patna Collegiate School turns 182
  • Patna Collegiate School Alumni Association organized a function to mark the 182nd foundation day of the school on Thursday. The event was jointly inaugurated by former Union minister Yashwant Sinha and MP Shatrughan Sinha. Bhojpuri actor Kunal Singh, Ruban Emergency Hospital chairman A K Singh, general physician Utpal Kant Singh and MLA Arun Kumar Singh were also present on the occasion.

 

 JHARKHAND

  •  The woman behind Jharkhand's dayan-free villages
  •  Lalkhatnga panchayat of Namkum Block in Ranchi declared that no woman would be declared a 'dayan' in their area. It was in one of these villages that Poonam Toppo's own grandmother was branded a witch and persecuted. For the 37-year-old activist who has devoted her life to fighting this age-old superstition, this was a big achievement.
  • ​Toppo's team of social workers is well-known for a play they took through many villages, called "Gudkayan Dahoto", which dealt with the issue of women being falsely branded as witches.
  • Data shows that the problem is especially acute in Jharkhand. Data collected from government and field sources shows that between 1991 and 2017 as many as 1,554 women have become victims of witch hunting in Jharkhand.

 

UTTAR PRADESH

  •  Sex ratio dips by 19 points in UP: NFHS report.
  • ​The sex ratio in Uttar Pradesh has declined by 19 points in comparison to 2014-15. Meanwhile, Haryana and Rajasthan have bettered their position. 
  • The total sex ratio at birth in Haryana was recorded as 836 females per 1000 males, 887 females per 1000 males in Rajasthan, and 903 females per 1000 males in UP. 
  • While the figures would make it appear that UP was performing better, Ali said the sex-ratios in Haryana and Rajasthan had improved by 72 and 44 points respectively. On the other hand, it has declined by 19 points in Uttar Pradesh. 
  • The ‘Mukhbir Yojana’ was announced in the state after the formation of the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government. 
  • Activist Seema Rana said female foeticide was causing a sharp drop in the sex ratio at birth in the state.  
  • The lowest sex ratio at birth in UP (699 females per 1000 males) was recorded by Jalaun district.  
  • In UP, the best sex ratio at the birth (1099 females per 1000 males) was recorded by Kannauj district.  
  • NO PCPNDT CELL IN UP
  • The PreConception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, 1994, was formed to stop female foeticide and improve the declining sex ratio in the country. 

 

UTTARAKHAND

  • Uttarakhand high court asks state counsel to get info on Pancheshwar dam hearing.
  •  The Uttarakhand high court on Wednesday while hearing a PIL related to the Pancheshwar dam project in Champawat district directed the state counsel to seek instructions from the district magistrates of Champawat, Almora and Pithoragarh districts about the protocol of public hearings for the project. Hearings were scheduled on August 9, 11 and 17.
  • Situated near the Indo-Nepal border, The Pancheshwar Multipurpose Development Project is the biggest joint initiative in the Mahakali Treaty, signed between India and Nepal in 1996. However, the proposed dam will submerge around 134 villages in Pithoragarh and Champawat districts that border Nepal and Almora.

 

HIMACHAL PRADESH

  • Himachal initiates Rs 1134 crore horticulture development project.
  • Himachal Pradesh government has initiated Rs 1134 crore ambitious horticulture development project with the help of World Bank to increase productivity, quality and transform market strategy in the state. The project will be implemented in the ratio of 80:20 respectively between World Bank and the state government.
  • The main focus will be on the rejuvenation of existing apple orchards and replacement of old senile orchards with improved variety with high density plantation. Around 18,200 hectare new high density orchards will be developed on private land across the state.
  • A special provision has also been made in the project to develop community irrigation facilities and approximately, 19,560 hectare of project area will be covered under this component to ensure availability of water during summer and critical stages of plant growth, said a senior government official.

 

ANDHRA PRADESH

  •  Andhra Pradesh students can avail fee concession in Ohio varsities.
  • State government had signed a MoU with Ohio State in the USA that will help students from Andhra Pradesh avail fee concessionof almost 75 per cent to study MS in the varsities in the USA's state.
  • The state government has signed such an agreement with Wright University in Ohio. For instance, he said, Wright University collects fees of 7,348USD for local students per semester for an MS degree and 14,676USD for outsiders. But, now under the agreement students from Andhra Pradesh who are considered, outsiders will be charged only 8,800 USD per semester. While fee concession presently can be availed for MS programmes, it will be extended to graduation courses like engineering, physiotherapy etc.

 

ASSAM

  •  Kaziranga in grip of fresh floods.
  • Even before the Kaziranga National Park could recover from the devastating floods that hit the sanctuary last month, it's in the grip of a fresh deluge. With the Brahmaputra in spate in the upper Assam districts, floodwaters started entering the 430-sq km world heritage site park, about 250 km from here. Park officials said at least 11 anti-poaching camps in the sanctuary have been inundated and the water level is rising.
  • Over a hundred animals, including seven rhinos, perished in the floodwaters that hit Kaziranga last month. About 13 animals were killed in vehicle-hit while crossing the highway. The maximum casualty was suffered by the small hog deer, with about 11 deaths reported. Besides, 70 animals were drowned in the floodwaters.
