RAJASTHAN

  • Industry department looks for a 'commerce' makeover
  • To address issues of 'commerce' with due diligence, the industry department is looking at possibilities of restructuring itself.
  • In line with the Centre, the state government wants club both industry and commerce together.
  •  The state government agrees to follow the Centre, then the nomenclature of the department will be changed from 'industry department' to 'industry and commerce department'.
  • According to officials, Rajasthan is among the few states where the department is called industry department instead of industry and commerce. If the restructuring takes place, the department will also draft, implement and monitor trade policies of the state government. 

 

GUJARAT

  • H1N1 claims eight more lives in state, toll now 331.
  • City continues to battle with swine flu with four more deaths. With eight more succumbing to deadly H1N1 virus, the toll from January 1 to August 27 this year reached 331 in the state.
     
  • According to a statement from the Gujarat government, 192 fresh cases of swine flu were reported in the state.
  •  From 2009 to August 26, 2017, the state has reported 1,666 deaths and 15,416 cases of swine flu.

 

Maharashtra

  • Inadequate management of bio-medical waste in Maharashtra: CAG
  • The enforcement of bio-medical waste management (BMW) rules in municipal corporations in Maharashtra was found to be inadequate in the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General 2016. The CAG audited 22 health care establishments between 2011 and 2016.
  • Of the 22 HCEs inspected, 20 operated without valid authorisation owing to delays from the MPCB, the CAG report said. Only 8 HCEs maintained a record of collection of BMW.
  • The inspection of hospitals and common facilities by the MPCB was also inadequate, the CAG report found. In fact it said that the advisory committee advising the government and MPCB on the implementation of BMW rules did not meet in 2011-16.

 

Madhya Pradesh

  • Amit Shah likely to witness mega bike rally in Bhopal on Jan 31
  • In order to strengthen its foundations ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP is leaving no stone unturned to grab all 29 Lok Sabha seats in Madhya Pradesh. The party has assigned booth networking campaign to its youth wing, to organise a mega bike rally of 3.50 lakh members on January 31, 2018.
     
  • The idea circulated by party chief Amit Shah during his recent meetings with the heads of districts, Morchas and youth fronts, is aimed at gaining a big momentum of youth workers to reach all 68000 booths in the state.

    The mega motorbike show will be held in the state capital under the aegis of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) which involves five bikes from every booth in the state.

 

Chhattisgarh

  • Chhattisgarh Government to merge DCCBs with state cooperative bank
  • The Chhattisgarh Government has planned to merge all District Cooperative Central Banks (DCCBs) of the state into a single State Cooperative Bank.
     
  • The farmers will get modernised bank facilities at the village level along with ATM and Micro ATM services.
     
  • It will directly affect the State Government’s interest subsidy, where it will be saving Rs 40-50 crore annually.

 

Bihar

  • Pitrapaksha Mela area to be made ODF.
  • The Pitrapaksha Mela area spread over a large part of old Gaya is to be made open defecation free (ODF) this year.
  • Pitrapaksha this year beings on September 5.
  • Besides regular toilets, 80 temporary toilets would be constructed in the Mela area for use by the pilgrims visiting Gaya for 'pindadaan' rituals during the fortnight long period.
  • A sizeable number of the nearly quarter million pilgrims visiting Gaya to perform 'pindadaan' for the salvation of their ancestral souls, being villagers from far off places in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and elsewhere in the country, promotion of use of toilets is going to be a challenging job.

Jharkhand

  • BSNL may set up 3,000 more telecom towers in Maoist hit areas.
  • State-run BSNL may be asked to set up 3,000 more telecom towers on an urgent basis and enhance the satellite bandwidth in the Maoist-infested areas to improve communication among the security agencies operating there.
  • The task of setting up nearly 2200 telecom towers in the first phase has been completed in a record time in all the seven Maoist-hit states of Bihar, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.

 

Uttar Pradesh

  • Taj not a temple, ASI tells court
  • The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has told a local court here that Taj Mahal is not a temple, but a tomb.
  • In a written statement filed in the court of civil judge (senior division) here on Thursday, the ASI denied to accept Taj Mahal as a Lord Shiva temple (Tejo mahalaya) as claimed by the petitioners.
  • The court has fixed the next hearing on September 11.
  • In April 2015, the Agra district court had admitted a suit filed by six lawyers that the Taj Mahal is a Lord Shiva temple (Tejo Mahalaya) and Hindu devotees should be allowed access inside the premises.
  • The court had issued notices to the central government, Union ministry of culture, home secretary and ASI to file their replies.

 

Uttarakhand

  • Uttarakhand government likely to bid for Sahara land in Haridwar
  • With an eye to expand its land pool in Haridwar, the Uttarakhand government is planning to explore possibilities of buying a land parcel of over 80 acres (reported to be worth around Rs 223 crore) which is owned by the Subrata Roy-led Sahara group in Haridwar. The land would be up for auction on July 28.
  • As per a notice issued by SEBI regarding the modalities involved in participating in the auction, the bidder has to deposit an amount equivalent to 25 % of the reserve price of the land as earnest money. 

 

Himachal Pradesh

  • Himachal Pradesh House adjourned again over law and order situation
  • The question hour proceedings remained disrupted for the third day of monsoon session of Himachal Pradesh assembly.
  • Before the start of question hour, speaker B B L Butail allowed chief minister Virbhadra Singh to make suo motu statement on Dharampur rape incident that made the Opposition members question the decision, saying as per the rule such statement could only be made after the question hour. 

 

Andhra Pradesh

  • AU ties up with Chinese university.
  • Andhra University has signed an MoU with Guizhou Normal University (GNU), China, for student exchange programme and starting a Chinese language course in AU.
  • The six-month diploma course in Chinese will commence shortly at the Centre for Foreign Languages in Andhra University.
  • The Minister also said a committee has been formed to look into the construction of permanent campuses for the 16 Central institutions such as IIM, IIPE and IIT that have been sanctioned and grounded in the State in the last three years, as per the AP Reorganisation Bill.

  • ABB India to upgrade 20 sub-stations in Himachal Pradesh
  • The sub-stations will be equipped with the latest control and protection technology to allow future digitisation.
  •  According to the statement, the order placed by the state utility, Himachal Pradesh Electricity Board Ltd (HPSEBL), supports India's Smart Grid Vision and the government's ambition of providing reliable power to the most remote regions.
