Q: 1 (a) Explain in detail, the method of the overlay design as per the IRC 81 guidelines for 
the strengthening of flexible road pavements using Benkelman Beam Deflection technique. 
Q: 1(b) Explain the importance of CBR, Vehicle Damage Factor (VDF), Lane Distribution 
factor (LDF) for the design of the flexible pavements? 	 (5, 3) 
Q: 2 Calculate the cost of earthwork for the portion of the flexible road from the following 
data: -

i. Joints in Cement Concrete Pavement Quality Concrete Pavements with detailed 
sketch. 
ii. Subgrade-Subbase Interaction for the rigid pavement design & list down the various 
steps of designing of PQC pavements as per IRC: 58 design method.. 
iii. Development of Pavement Maintenance Management Systems (PMMS) for flexible 
pavements. 
iv. Dry lean concrete (DLC) and Pavement Quality Concrete (PQC) layer mix 
specifications as per MORTH. 	 (4X3) 
Q: 4(a) Explain in detail, the construction technique of pavement quality concrete (PQC) 
roads using slip form pavers and also draw one typical section of the PQC road for National 
Highway section as per IRC guidelines? 
Q: 4(b) Explain in detail, the MORTH specifications for the Bituminous Macadam (BM), 
Premix carpet (PC) with tack coat and Dense Bituminous Macadam (DBM) layers of flexible
