IAS (Indian Administrative Services) formerly known as Imperial Civil Service (ICS) is a bureaucracy of India. Through the IAS (UPSC CSE) exam, the conducting body recruits candidates for the All-India Services such as Indian Administrative Services (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and IRS, etc. respectively. Although regarded as one of the toughest exams in the country, with the right approach and strategy, an aspirant can crack the IAS examination on the very first attempt.
The IAS exam is conducted in three phases that are Prelims, Mains, and Interview round. IAS exam pattern is set up by UPSC in such as way that the aspirants have to appear in three stages of the exam.
The three stages are as follows:
In order to get any of the services, the candidate has to clear all three stages and clear the final cutoff which is released by UPSC after the interview round. IAS Prelims exam consists of two papers namely, General Studies I and CSAT (General Studies Paper II). While CSAT is qualifying in nature, the marks gained in the General Studies paper define your selection for UPSC Mains. It means your marks in the General Studies Paper will be considered for the Prelims cutoff.
It must be noted that there is a negative marking for the wrong answers. 1/3rd of the total marks assigned for the question would be deducted as a penalty for each wrong answer. However, there will be no deductions for unattempted questions. Check IAS Prelims Syllabus.

The IAS Mains Exam comprises two types of papers; Paper A (qualifying) and Paper B (merit ranking). Paper A and Paper B are the Language paper and the English paper respectively, which will be qualifying in nature. The marks obtained in these papers shall not be added to marks that would determine the rank of the candidate. However, the rest of the papers are evaluated for merit purposes.

- The candidates can select their medium of writing the UPSC Civil Services IAS Mains Exam as Hindi or English or any other language listed in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
- The Indian Languages included in the IAS exam are languages listed in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
- The candidates who score above the prescribed cut-off marks in the IAS exam (Mains) will get the summons for the Personality Test (last stage of the IAS exam).
- The final ranking of the candidates is on the basis of the marks obtained by them in the Main Examination and Personality Test/Interview Round of the IAS exam.
The interview process is the final stage of the selection process. The interview consists of 275 marks which makes a total of maximum marks of 2025.

IAS exam application process is online only. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will release the IAS application form 2023 on February 01, 2023 (tentative) on the website – upsc.gov.in. The eligible candidates can apply for the IAS 2023 exam on or before the last date. The application fee is to be paid by the General category candidates.

IAS exam preparation must be done as per the UPSC CSE 2023 syllabus. The UPSC CSE Syllabus consists of many subjects and topics. To clear the exam, the candidates must go through the IAS syllabus thoroughly before starting the preparation. They must check the topics and recommended books during the preparation.
IAS Prelims exam syllabus in detail will be mentioned by the UPSC. The UPSC CSE Prelims exam is the primary stage of the selection process. It is an online screening stage. The IAS Prelims syllabus has 2 papers - GAT and CSAT.

IAS Mains exam of the IAS (UPSC CSE) Exam comprises 9 theoretical papers among which there are 4 general studies papers, 2 language papers, and 1 essay paper, and 2 optional subject papers.
There are two language papers in the IAS (UPSC CSE) Mains exam 2022; Indian Language (Hindi) and English. Both of them are qualifying in nature. Therefore, candidates must score above 25% in either of them to qualify.
The essay paper has a marks weightage of 250 out of the total 1250 marks of the entire Mains test. It contains 12.5 % of the total. The word limit for the essay is 1000-1200 words.

IAS exam 2023 admit card are released for IAS Mains 2023 by the UPSC on its website on August 28, 2023. IAS exam cutoff 2023 will be released by the UPSC on its website soon after the commencement of the exam. The UPSC CSE 2023 cutoff marks depend on a number of factors. The candidates can have a look at the factors and previous year’s cutoffs to have an idea for this year cutoff below:

IAS salary and other allowances are provided by the Central Government. It is considered that IAS officers are one of the highest-paid employees under the Central Government of India. As per the new pay structure, a candidate who cleared the UPSC CSE exam and joins as an IAS officer or any other civil service will get a basic salary of INR 56,100/-. The starting salary of an IAS officer is INR 70,000 approximately as per the 7th Pay Commission.
