Ans. Thunder and lightning are caused by the build-up of electrical energy in the atmosphere during a thunderstorm. As rain falls from the clouds, it carries positive and negative charges. This separation of charges creates an electrical imbalance, which eventually leads to the discharge of electricity in the form of lightning and the resulting sound waves, known as thunder.

This type of thunderstorm, known as a dry thunderstorm, typically occurs in arid regions where rain evaporates before reaching the ground. Dry thunderstorms are characterized by lightning strikes and thunder without any significant precipitation.
