Level 1

Domicile

  • Domicile is a legal term used to refer to an individual's permanent residence or home. 
  • Example: The legal domicile of the applicant is located in New York.

Emit

  • Emit means to release or send out (energy, gas, light, etc.) from a source.
  • Example: The volcano emitted a cloud of ash and smoke into the sky.

Lax

  • Lax (adjective): Not strict or severe; careless or negligent.
  • Example: His lax approach to security made the business vulnerable to cyberattacks.

Prestigious

  • Prestigious: having a high reputation and respect, usually because of high social standing or achievement.
  • Example: Harvard is a prestigious university.

Ultimate

  • Ultimate: The highest or most extreme level or degree possible.
  • Example: She strives for the ultimate level of success in her career.

Rash

  • Rash: (adjective) acting or done without careful consideration.
  • Example: He made a rash decision to quit his job without any thought of the consequences.

Nominal

  • Nominal: having a value in name only, not in actual worth.
  • Example: The nominal fee for using the service was just $1, but the actual cost was much higher.

Elapse 

  • Elapse: (verb) To pass or go by, typically with the passage of time.
  • Example: As the days elapse, I'm getting closer to my vacation.

Integral

  • Integral: Adjective; necessary to the completeness of a whole; essential.
  • Example: Being honest and trustworthy is an integral part of a successful relationship.

Level 2

Conjecture

  • Conjecture is an opinion or conclusion made without sufficient evidence or proof.
  • Example: John's conjecture that the painting was by Monet was based on his knowledge of the artist's style.

Flamboyant

  • Flamboyant: Adjective; characterized by or tending to attract notice and impress others due to being bold or showy.
  • Example: The flamboyant performer strutted across the stage in an extravagant costume.

Haven

  • Haven: A place of safety and refuge, or a place of rest and peace.
  • Example: The beach was a haven for her, a place where she could relax and forget her troubles.

Incoherent

  • Incoherent: lacking clarity or logical order; not easily understood.
  • Example: His incoherent ramblings made it impossible to understand what he was trying to say.

Meticulous

  • Meticulous means to be extremely careful and precise.
  • Example: The artist was meticulous in her attention to detail, carefully crafting each brush stroke.

Remuneration

  • Remuneration is an amount of money paid to someone for a service they have performed or a job they have done. 
  • Example: The company offered a significant remuneration to the employee for their hard work.

Placard

  • Placard: a large printed notice, usually posted in a public place.
  • Example: A placard was hung at the entrance of the town hall announcing the upcoming festival.

Eventuate

  • Eventuate means to come about or occur as a result of a particular course of action.
  • Example: After months of planning, the event finally eventuated.

Fortitude

  • Fortitude is the strength of mind or spirit that enables someone to face difficulty, danger, or pain without fear. 
  • Example: The firefighter showed great fortitude as he ran into the burning building to save the trapped victims.

Ilk

  • Ilk means 'kind of' or 'type of'.
  • Example: People of every ilk were welcome at the party.

Inhibition

  • Inhibition: The suppression or blocking of a behavior, thought, or feeling, usually by conscious effort.
  • Example: She was trying to overcome her inhibition of public speaking by practicing her presentation in front of the mirror.

Sporadic

  • Sporadic means occurring at irregular intervals or only in a few places; scattered or isolated.
  • Example: The company's sales have been sporadic over the last year.

Truncated

  • Truncated means to shorten or reduce something by cutting off part of it.
  • Example: The tree was truncated because it was obstructing the view.

Viable

  • Viable means capable of being done successfully or able to continue to exist or develop.
  • Example: The company's plan for expansion is viable.

Level 3

Anathema

  • Anathema is a noun that refers to someone or something that is cursed, detested, or shunned. It can also refer to something or someone that is loathed or reviled. 
  • Example: His political views were seen as an anathema to many of his peers.

Expunge

  • Expunge means to delete or remove something permanently.
  • Example: The court expunged the criminal record of the defendant.

Importune

  • Importune means to ask someone for something in an annoying or persistent way.
  • Example: The beggar importuned everyone who walked by for spare change.

Jaunty

  • Jaunty means to be cheerful and carefree in demeanor. 
  • Example: She wore a jaunty hat as she skipped down the sidewalk.

Obviate

  • Obviate means to prevent or make unnecessary.
  • Example: The invention of the car obviated the need for horses to pull carriages.

Quip 

  • Quip: A witty remark or comment.
  • Example: "I'm sure you're going to ace that test - quip the teacher."

Subjugate

  • Subjugate: To bring under complete control or subjection; to bring under the domination of another.
  • Example: The conquering army subjugated the inhabitants of the country.

Surreptitious

  • Surreptitious means done or made in a secret and stealthy way, often in order to hide something or avoid detection.
  • Example: He made a surreptitious escape out of the back door, hoping not to be seen.

Utopia

  • Utopia (noun): An imagined perfect place or state of things.
  • Example: Many people dream of a utopian society where everyone lives in harmony.

Timorous

  • Timorous means timid or fearful.
  • Example: The timorous rabbit hid in the bushes when it heard a loud noise.

Diatribe

  • Diatribe is a noun that means a harsh and critical speech or writing.
  • Example: The professor's diatribe about the students' lack of effort was met with silence.

Fractious

  • Fractious means bad-tempered, unruly, or difficult to control.
  • Example: The fractious child threw a temper tantrum in the store.

Incontrovertible

  • Incontrovertible: not able to be disputed or denied; unquestionable.
  • Example: The incontrovertible evidence suggested that the defendant was guilty.

Lurid

  • Lurid means shocking and sensational in a way that is unpleasant and disturbing.
  • Example: The lurid details of the murder made many people feel sick.

Ostentatious

  • Ostentatious means to be showy or extravagant in an attempt to impress others.
  • Example: The billionaire arrived at the gala in an ostentatious Rolls Royce, hoping to make a statement.

Schism

  • A division or split within a group, often caused by disagreement over beliefs or practices.
  • Example: The schism between the two churches was caused by their different views on baptism.

Subterranean

  • Subterranean means existing or occurring beneath the surface of the earth.
  • Example: The scientists explored the subterranean caves in search of fossils.
