Comprehension 5
Read the following passage and answer the questions.

Shekhawati is a lesser known area of Rajasthan, a state famous for forts, palaces, temples, marble, stone, jewellery and textiles and food. Shekhawati covers the districts of Sikar, Jhunjhunu and Churu. In it is a vast treasure of havelis or mansions, forts, chhatris or cenotaphs of kings and noblemen who have passed away, temples and baolis or stepwells used as water reservoirs. The most remarkable feature of the buildings in Shekhawati are the fantastic frescoes and murals that we find in almost every mansion and village. There are paintings on the walls and doorways. These are richly decorated with parrots, peacocks, scenes of royal and village life, processions, stories from the epics, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, flowers, mirrors and designs that glow with colours and intricate patterns. If we go to small towns like Mandawa, Nawalgarh, Dundlod and many others, it is like turning the pages of an old history book. Forts and castles still exist and you walk through them, remembering the rajas and thakurs who built them in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The Mandawa palace is now partly restored and functions as a hotel. It has an exquisite sheesh mahal or hall of mirrors and durbar hall. The havelis or mansions and other monuments carry the names of some of the wellknown merchant houses and families of India, like Ramnath Poddar, Arjun Das Goenka, Tibrewal, Modi, Jhunjhunwala, etc. The Poddar Haveli in Nawalgarh has been made into a Heritage Museum. It has a wonderful display of wedding costumes, modes of transport, turbans, textiles, paintings, marble art, wooden and stone carvings, jewellery and handicrafts. The main door of the haveli is considered one of the best in design in India.
