Introduction

Animals are living beings found in various environments such as land, air, and water. We see them in our homes, on the road, in gardens, zoos, and circuses. They eat different types of food and are helpful to us in many ways. An animal's home is called its habitat. Animals can be classified into various types.

Domestic Animals

Domestic animals live near us, either on farms or in our homes. They can be farm animals or pets.

Pet Animals

• Pet animals are a special kind of domestic animal that live with humans in their homes.
• Role: They are kept as companions and are loved by their owners.
• Care: Pet owners provide them with food, care, and a place to live.
• Examples: Dogs, cats, fish, birds, rabbits, and hamsters.

Uses of pets Some important pet animals and their uses 

• Cows and buffaloes are domesticated for milk and compost fertilizers.  
• Camels and horses are used for transportation of materials. 
• Fishes and hens are used for eggs and meat.  
• The dung of most farm animals is used as fuel or manure.  
• Pets like dogs guard our houses.  
• Pets like pigeons, parrots, dogs, cats, etc. are domesticated for companionship and pleasure.

Taking Care of Pets

• Good diet: Good nutrition should be provided to pet animals.
• Clean water: It is necessary to give clean water for drinking and bathing.
• Training: Some important directions and training should be provided to pet animals.
• A good living place: It is necessary to give a healthy living place to pets.
• Health care by qualified veterinary staff: Pet animals should be taken to qualified veterinary staff for routine check-up and treatment.

Farm Animals

• Farm animals are animals that are kept on farms.
• Role: They provide us with many useful things and some even help us with work.
• Examples: Cows, buffaloes, goats, sheep, donkeys, hens, and ducks.
• Homes: Special places like coops for hens, sheds for cows, stables for horses, and sties for pigs are built on farms to keep the animals safe and comfortable.

Things We Get from Farm Animals

We get different things from different farm animals: 

• Milk:
  • Animals like cows, goats, and buffaloes give us milk.
  • Milk is used to make curd, butter, and cheese.
• Eggs:
  • Birds like hens, geese, and ducks provide us with eggs to eat.
• Meat:
  • We eat fish and the meat of animals like goats and hens.
• Honey and Beeswax:
  • Obtained from beehives.
  • Beeswax is used to make candles.
• Silk:
  • Silkworms give us silk, a material used to make beautiful clothes.
• Wool:
  • Obtained from the hair or fur of sheep, goats, camels, and rabbits.
  • Wool is used to make sweaters, mufflers, socks, gloves, and shawls.
• Leather:
  • Made from the skin of animals like camels, snakes, and buffaloes.
  • Used to create products such as bags, shoes, and belts.
