A compound, on the other hand, is a substance made up of two or more different types of atoms chemically bonded together. It can be broken down into simpler substances by chemical means.
| 5. How does temperature affect the state of matter? | |
Ans. Temperature affects the state of matter by affecting the kinetic energy of the particles. When the temperature of a substance is increased, the particles move faster and have more kinetic energy. This causes them to overcome the intermolecular forces holding them together, leading to a change in state. For example, when a solid is heated, it melts and becomes a liquid, and when a liquid is heated, it vaporizes and becomes a gas.
