Q. Write a speech on ‘TV viewing is Harmful for Children’ for the school morning assembly.

Ans.
Respected judges, teachers and my friends!
Today I am going to speak on the topic ‘TV viewing is Harmful for Children’.

In my opinion, TV viewing has really harmed the children. Their mind is the most impressionable one. Anything wrong printed on it,  is difficult to remove even at a later stage. First of all its bad effect is on children’s health. Many have to wear spectacles because of a weak eyesight due to continuous viewing of TV. The regularity of life and punctuality suffer a lot. As most of the time they spend on TV, neither they are able to give sufficient time to their study nor do they do any extra activity.

I feel strongly that TV viewing gives them anxieties and tension. When the homework gets delayed or is done haphazardly, a sense of fear enters their minds. Slowly, this fear takes a harmful turn. The children start nurturing the habit of playing truant due to it. Sometimes they start telling lies. In short, they go astray. In this way, the results are serious. It becomes really difficult to reform them.

Secondly TV viewing exposes the children to an easy life as it is seen in films. There are reports that children die in their attempt to imitate some ‘actions’ of their favourite heroes. But outside, life is quite different. Children think life is like that as is seen in films etc. So this causes frustration at a later stage when they face realities of life. The gap between dream (things are shown materialising in a moment in the programmes more popular with children as in a dream)  and reality increases and results in disillusionment. So, TV viewing is not helping children in making them as responsible and understanding adults. In my opinion, we are giving them an environment which will make them drift away from the realities of life.

Thank you
