Simple Past

Sub + was/ were + V3 + by + object

Examples:

(i) Active : Ramesh threw the ball.
Passive : The ball was thrown by Ramesh. 

(ii) Active : Children caught a kite.
Passive : A kite was caught by children. 

(iii) Active : The young man killed a snake.
Passive : A snake was killed by the youngman.

(iv) Active : They learnt the lesson.
Passive : The lesson was learnt by them.

Past Continuous

Sub + was/ were + being + V3 + by + object

Examples:

(i) Active : The man was cleaning the street.
Passive : The street was being cleaned by the man. 

(ii) Active : Raman was teaching English.
Passive : English was being taught by Raman.

(iii) Active : Girls were singing religious songs.
Passive : Religious songs were being sung by girls.

(iv) Active : Boys were painting the door.
Passive : The door was being painted by boys. 

(v) Active : The carpenter was making chairs.
Passive : Chairs were being made by the carpenter.

 

Past Perfect

Sub + had + been + V3 + by + object

Examples:

(i) Active : Tom had painted the door.
 Passive : The door had been painted by Tom.

(ii) Active : I had written an article.
 Passive : An article had been written by me. 

(iii) Active : Sonu had repeated the mistake.
 Passive : The mistake had been repeated by Sonu. 

(iv) Active : The man had drunk tea.
 Passive : Tea had been drunk by the man.

(v) Active : I had cooked food.
 Passive : Food had been cooked by me.
