Q3: Answer these questions.

(i) What are grasslands? What type of climate do grasslands have?
Ans: The grasslands are covered with grasses and some trees are found here which are grown by farmers only. Grasses are tall in Prairies rainfall is more while short in steppes because of influencing climate. The climate is warm and dry. Rainfall is moderate and occurs mostly in the summer season.

(ii) Why are the Prairies called the ‘Wheat Basket of the World’?

(iii) In the Prairies, machines have almost replaced manual labour. Explain.

(v) Why is cattle reared in the western part?
Ans: Animals are reared on the western side of the prairies because that area consists of extensive grasslands on which animals can graze. That area is also not very suitable for farming as it is comparatively dry.

Q4: Think and answer.

Why are dairy farms and meat-processing factories well-developed in the Prairies?
Ans: It is because of the fertile soils where different kinds of nutrient rich grasses grow on which cattle and sheep are reared in huge numbers which has grown over there as a larger industry.
