The Constitution of India is one of the finest legal documents ever drafted. The Constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly of India on 26th November, 1949. The Constitution was enforced on 26th January, 1950. Dr. Rajendra Prasad was the President of the Constituent Assembly. Dr. B. R. Ambedkar was the chairman of the drafting committee of the constitution.
The term constitution is derived from the Latin word Constitution which means ‘to establish’. A constitution is something established on the basis of government (whether by constitutional convention or by process of evolution). The constitution of our country is a collection of legal rules which provides the framework of the governmental machinery. It is also an effective instrument of orderly social change.
Preamble is an introduction of or preface to the constitution. It serves as a summary or essence of the constitution. Preamble gives idea about the following :
PREAMBLE
We, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR, DEMOCRATIC, REPUBLIC and to secure to all its citizens:
JUSTICE, social, economic and political;
LIBERTY of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship;
EQUALITY of status and of opportunity; and to promote among them all.
FRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation;
IN OUR CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY this twenty-sixth day of November, 1949,DO HEREBY ADOPT, ENACT AND GIVE TO OURSELVES THIS CONSTITUTION.
