Vegetation

Grasses, shrubs and trees which grow on their own without the help from human beings are called natural vegetation. India has five types of natural vegetation as given below.

Agricultural


Crops

India is mainly an agricultural country. A wide range of crops are grown in India.

  • Kharif crops: Sown at the beginning of monsoon season in May-June and harvested in September. For example, rice, jowar, maize, jute.
  • Rabi crops: Sown in the beginning of cold season in October to December and harvested in February-April. For example, wheat, barley, gram, potatoes.
  • Crops are also classified as :
    • Food crops: Rice wheat, pulses, maize, jowar, bajra
    • Cash crops: Cotton, jute, sugarcane, mustard, tobacco

Minerals

India is rich in mineral deposits. A wide variety of them are found in many parts of India. Important minerals found in the country are Copper, Bauxite Gold, Iron-ore, Lead, Zinc, Manganese, Diamond, Gypsum, copper, Limestone Mica, etc.
