Q.1. What is the meaning of sports training?

  • The process where the performance of different types of sports activities done by sports persons by maintaining great performance is called sports training. This process is also based on scientific principles.
  • The training for sport is designed in such a way that it improves the fitness of a person and their abilities. The major importance of training is optimal performance.


Q.2. Why is it essential to train a sports person systematically?

  • Planned & systematic training is one of the principles of sports training. Planned & systematic training helps the sports person to achieve better results. If followed perfectly, it will help a sports person to achieve high level of sports performance in competitions.
  • To ensure best outcome in a particular sport, continuity of training is also important. 


Q.3. List and explain the principles of sports training.

The basic principle of sports training are as follows:

  • Continuity of Training: A sports person should have a continuous and regular sports training. For the best outcome in a sport, continuity of training is important.
  • Increasing the training Load: To enable the body to adapt higher demands progressively, training load should be increased gradually.
  • Active Participation: A sports person should participate in a sports training with sincerity as well as conviction. It will help the person to improve performance capabilities or to develop confidence.
  • Planned and Systematic Training: A well-planned sports training will help a person to achieve high level of sports performance in a competition.
  • General and Specific Training: Both general as well as specific training is important for a sports person. General training acts as a basic training for a sports person. High performance can be achieved by specific training.
  • Uniformity and differentiation: Uniformity is in terms of time as well as duration of a sports activity. Depending upon various factors and needs of a sports person, the needs of a sports person should be planned.
  • Adaptability: A sports person should get adapted to training load in a proper proportion between recovery and load.
  • Feasibility: Too little or too much sports training should be avoided for maximum benefit.


Q.4. Explain the terms training load and adaptation.

  • Training Load: The longer or harder a sports person trains, the higher will be the training load. Training load may differ from person to person as it depends upon the intensity of training. The person who is training with higher intensity will be having higher training load. 
  • Adaptation: Adaptation is sports training refers to the process of getting adapted to an activity or exercise by repeated exposure to it. A sports person should get adapted to training load in a proper proportion between recovery and load. 


Q.5. Why a long break in sports training should be avoided?

Continue of training is not only one of the basic principles of sports training, but also the most important principle of sports training too. If a sports person does not maintain continuity in the training, the sports training would not result in best outcome in a sport. Therefore, continuity in training should be followed to improve fitness as well as abilities in a sport.

  • Interval training: Training with maximum intensity by taking frequent intervals is known as interval training.
  • Cross training: Training in various ways that would help improve fitness as well as overall performance is known as cross training.
