Craft Ideas: CD Christmas Ornament

Material Required

• Old CDs
• Puffy paint (commercial or homemade)
• Glitter glue
• Aluminum foil
• String
• Transparent tape
• White glue
• Glue gun
• Satin or fabric ribbon (optional)

Directions to be followed

• Cover the center hole of an old CD with a piece of aluminum foil. Tape the edges of the foil onto the CD.
  
• Flip the CD so that the reflective side is facing up. The reflective surface of most CDs is usually silver in color but some have a tinge of purple, green or blue. Use puffy paint or 3D paint to draw raised lines on the CD. Metallic-colored puffy paint goes well with the CD's reflective surface.
• Draw shapes like circles, hearts or stars. If you don't have puffy paint, try making a homemade version by mixing 1 part acrylic paint with 2 parts white glue. Find the instructions here.
• Once the puffy paint lines and shapes are dry, fill the sections between the lines with glitter glue. Use a small spoon or a stick to spread it evenly.
  
• Add accents to large undecorated areas by drawing little dots of puffy paint or glitter glue. You can also glue some small rhinestones for a different texture.
• For a two-sided ornament, decorate a second CD. Let the ornaments dry completely.
  
• If you decorated large sections with glitter glue, you may notice that the glitter glue tends to come off at the edges once it dries. Simply glue the edges back on with white glue.
• Cut a length of string or ribbon for the handle. Gather the ends together and tape at the top of the back of the CD.
• For a two-sided ornament, glue the second decorated CD on top of the first, aligning the two CDs at the edges. Use white glue or a glue gun.
  
• Once the glue dries, you can use hot glue to add a bow on top of your ornament.
  Hang your beautiful ornament on a Christmas tree or wherever you want to add some Christmas cheer. Avoid putting it outdoors or where it can get wet.
