Online education was already a thing before the pandemic, but during the crisis, people were more accepting of it. Online learning, like any educational techniques, offers advantages and disadvantages of its own.
The best thing about online education is flexibility. There is no constraint of time and space. The lectures can be conducted at any time and can be attended from anywhere. TIn the event that a student must miss class for some reason, the lectures may be videotaped and used instead. It is inexpensive and economical. Since the classes are being taken online, all expenses related to transportation, lodging, meals, inventory, etc., may be kept to a minimum. The course materials are mostly free and accessible online as well. If not free, the price is not excessive. The students and the teachers have become technically efficient as various modes, platforms, software etc become necessary making it easy for the students to amp up the skills needed to get job ready in advance.
However, there is a flip side as a considerable amount of impact on the students’ health is visible due to long screen-timings and bad sitting postures. The students feel isolated as the atmosphere of a physical classroom can’t be matched. Also, teachers are unable to focus losing the sense of connect. The technological constraints especially in the rural areas are also not new issues.
