Describe something you don't have now but would really like to own in the future | Speaking for IELTS PDF Download

You should say:

  • what it is
  • when you would like to (= want to / hope to) buy it
  • how long you have wanted to buy this
  • explain why you would like to buy this

Sample Answer:

  • When it comes to accumulating all of the aspirations in one single list, it will undoubtedly be an extensive one. However, if I have to mention merely one thing that I would like to own in the future, it would be an SUV car, specifically Mahindra Thar.
  • To tell you the truth, I am clueless when it comes to driving. So, I would first have to set my hands on it and learn the correct ways of driving a car. And then, considering that this car costs a bomb, I hope to own its keys and put it in my garage before turning 30.
  • I have been longing to buy a Mahindra Thar since it launched in 2020. Out of all the things, what fascinates me the most about this automobile is its modernised and upgraded look.
  • Mahindra has turned this model into a more desirable and polished proposition this time around. Thus, it instantly tugged at my heartstrings. Also, thousands of buyers are going gaga over this car, which is quite apparent from its skyrocketed sales and the hype surrounding this model. In addition to this, the brand has given variations to choose from. So, we can get a car of our preference.

Follow-ups
Q1: Why do you think people often desire things they don’t currently own?
Ans:
People often desire things they don’t own because they feel those things will bring them happiness, convenience, or status. Desiring new things is part of human nature, driven by curiosity or the belief that having them will improve their quality of life, whether it's for practical use, emotional fulfillment, or social recognition.

Q2: Do you think people should always try to fulfill their desires or sometimes let go of them?
Ans:
I believe that people should try to balance fulfilling their desires and letting go of some. While pursuing our goals can bring satisfaction, constantly chasing every desire can lead to dissatisfaction or unnecessary stress. It’s important to prioritize what truly adds value to life and let go of desires that are not aligned with our core values or long-term happiness.

Q3: Do you think technology influences the things people want to own?
Ans:
Yes, technology has a significant influence on what people want to own. As new technologies emerge, they shape our desires, making us crave the latest gadgets, devices, or innovations that promise to improve our lives. For instance, smartphones, smart home devices, and electric cars have become popular because they offer convenience and are seen as modern essentials.

Q4: Is owning material things more important than having experiences or memories?
Ans:
In my opinion, experiences and memories are often more important than material things. While owning things can bring temporary joy, experiences provide lasting memories and personal growth. Traveling, spending time with loved ones, or learning something new can create a deeper sense of fulfillment, something that material possessions can’t offer in the long run.
