• Recently, I had an opportunity to travel to the 'Silicon Valley of India' to visit my sister. Knowing that I love to explore, she took me to some of the most popular places in the city, like Nandi Hills, Bannerghatta Biological Park, Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace, Bangalore Palace, Lal Bagh Botanical Garden, to name a few. I really liked the ambience of the Lalbagh Botanical Garden and being with my sister made it more memorable for me.
• Spread across 240 acres of land, it houses a wide range of flora and fauna that includes different kinds of bird species like Myna, Parakeets, Pond Heron, etc. The construction of this garden began during the reign of Hyder Ali. Later, it was completed during the rule of his son, Tipu Sultan, who added the concept of horticulture in the garden, which is now under the protection of the Directorate of Horticulture. Apart from this, there is a glasshouse, a peninsular gneiss rock adjoining a lotus lake that adds to the charisma of the garden.
• Visitors are mainly drawn by the greenery of the place that comprises various ornamental, exotic trees and plants. Other than the fauna life, this garden is home to the country's most extensive collection of tropical plants. The two annual flower shows that coincide with the week of Republic Day and Independence are celebrated in the glasshouse and a significant number of people visit during this time. Various other events celebrating the harvest of seasonal fruits or festivities are also celebrated here.
• Although I have been to several gardens all over India, Bengaluru's Lalbagh Garden, nestled within the city, has its own magnificence. An added advantage was the company of my most beloved sister. Moreover, when I visited in May, I witnessed and relished the mango festival, which is one of my favourite fruits.
