What is the Ones and tens Concept?
- When we have more than 9 items, we write them in two columns, ‘Tens’ and ‘Ones’.
- In the Tens column, we write down how many "tens" we have followed by the remaining items in the one's column.
- A ‘Ten’ indicates a bundle or group of 10 individuals or singles.
- 1 Object = 1 Ones
- 10 Ones = 1 Ten
- There are 10 sticks in a bundle. So, 10 ones is equal to 1 ten.
- Similarly, 2 bundles of 10 ones = 10 ones + 10 ones
= 2 tens
= 20 - 3 bundles of 10 = 30
- 4 bundles of 10 ones = 40
- 5 bundles of 10 ones = 50
Let us count the number of pencils and write in tens and ones place
