Monkey and the Dolphin

Long ago, there was a sailor who had a pet monkey. One day, he and other sailors set out on a sea journey. The sailor took his pet monkey with him for company. When the ship was far out at sea, a terrible storm struck and the ship overturned. Everyone on board fell into the sea. The monkey thought that he would drown.

Just then, a dolphin appeared. The dolphin swam close to the monkey and gently lifted him on its back. The dolphin carried the monkey to a lonely island. When they reached the island, the monkey jumped down from the dolphin's back. The dolphin asked, "Do you know this place?"

The monkey replied, "Yes, I do. In fact, the king of this island is my best friend."

The dolphin knew that no one lived on that island, so it said, "Oh! You are a prince!"

The monkey asked, "How can I be the king?"

The dolphin answered, "It is simple. As you are the only living creature on this island, you will naturally be the king."

Then the dolphin swam away and left the monkey alone on the island.

Moral: Those who lie and boast may end up in trouble.

2. What lesson can be learned from the interactions between the monkey and the dolphin?
Ans. The interactions between the monkey and the dolphin teach readers that being true to oneself and others is essential in forming genuine relationships. The dolphin's decision to help the monkey, despite his deceitful nature, ultimately leads to disappointment, emphasising that dishonesty can damage trust and friendships.
3. How does the monkey's behaviour lead to his downfall in the story?
Ans. The monkey's behaviour leads to his downfall because he attempts to deceive the dolphin by pretending to be a creature of the sea. His dishonesty is exposed when the dolphin realises the truth about him. This betrayal results in the dolphin abandoning the monkey, demonstrating that deceitful actions can lead to isolation and loss of support.
4. What role does the setting play in the story of "The Monkey and the Dolphin"?
Ans. The setting plays a crucial role in "The Monkey and the Dolphin" as it contrasts the natural habitat of the dolphin with the monkey's land-based existence. This contrast enhances the theme of belonging and highlights the difficulty the monkey faces when trying to fit into an environment that is not his own, ultimately underscoring the consequences of his deceit.
5. In what ways does the story reflect the nature of friendships?
Ans. The story reflects the nature of friendships by illustrating how trust is foundational to any relationship.
