The cutoff scores for GATE exams vary every year based on various factors, including the number of candidates appearing for the exam, difficulty level of the paper, and the number of seats available in M.Tech programmes. Generally, candidates who score above 400 in GATE have a good chance of securing admission in National Institutes of Technology (NITs) for M.Tech programmes.
The GATE score is calculated out of 1000, even though the exam is conducted for a total of 100 marks. The score is calculated based on the marks obtained by the candidate in the exam, which are then normalized to account for differences in the difficulty level of different sessions. The normalization process ensures that scores from different sessions are comparable, so that no candidate is at a disadvantage due to the difficulty level of their particular session.
