Dr. Rinnie Brar, a surgeon who achieved an All India Rank of 68 in her medical entrance exam and a gold medalist during her MBBS, shares her journey of becoming a doctor, which started by taking the medical entrance exam. Today, she wants to share some tips with you on how you can start your journey too.
First and foremost, you have to focus on your "why." Why do you want to become a doctor? This answer will definitely help you during your preparation. When things get tough – and they will – this reason will be your motivation.
For NEET exam preparation, especially for Biology and Inorganic Chemistry, the golden rule has been the same for years: study each and every line of NCERT books. Any questions can come from that. Dr. Brar recalls that during her exam, there were exact questions asked from lines and words of NCERT.
For subjects like Physics, Physical Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry, refer to other reference books as the language of NCERT for these subjects is a bit complex and difficult to understand. You need to put extra emphasis on these subjects as most students tend to lose marks in these sections. You should definitely practice NCERT in-text questions and exercises for them as well.
For these, you can refer to notes on EduRev and practice MCQ tests to score well in these sections.
Dr. Brar recommends every aspirant attempt one test daily. Practice questions on every concept that you've studied and ensure that you attempt one test a day. You'll make mistakes in the beginning, but that's okay. Keep practicing regularly, and eventually, you will achieve perfection.
EduRev offers a course with online MCQ tests for every topic in each chapter which can be your golden resource.
Dr. Brar emphasizes the importance of past-year papers in NEET preparation. Practice past year questions of a particular chapter when you study that chapter. This will help you understand the type of questions that have been asked in the exam.
You can find them in the 31-year past year papers on EduRev available for all three subjects: Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
Begin taking mock tests three to four months before the exam. This should be done independently of your preparation stage. This will help condition your mind to attempt 180 questions in three hours, and eventually, when you take the exam, you will be more confident while attempting.
EduRev offers a structured course with past-year questions, per-test, and complete mock tests for NEET preparation.
Dr. Brar realized that self-learning with the right guidance is the most important thing in preparation. She recommends that every NEET aspirant uses EduRev for regular self-analysis and maintains a regular schedule of practicing tests. There's also a course on "How to Study for NEET" on EduRev, which Dr. Brar found really useful.
So, gear up for your NEET preparation with EduRev and follow Dr. Rinnie Brar's tips to embark on your journey to becoming a successful doctor.
