Tips To Tackle the Command Task

  • Pay close attention to the GTO's instructions and clarify any doubts immediately, as you may not be able to ask questions once the task begins.
  • Take a minute or two to create a general plan. Use your common sense and think logically to find a solution.
  • Don't let nervousness take over, as it can impair your ability to think clearly.
  • Be thoughtful in selecting your subordinates, as they will be the ones helping you complete the task. Having spent some time with your group, you should be aware of each member's strengths and weaknesses.
  • Line up your subordinates and explain the assigned task, your plan, and the available materials.
  • If you encounter difficulties during the command task, you can ask your subordinates for suggestions, but there may be a deduction in marks.
  • If your subordinates are not following your instructions, politely request them to do so.
  • If you realize that your plan isn't working well, be prepared to change it. Approach the situation logically and systematically.
  • Avoid being harsh or rude to your subordinates. Encourage and support those who are cooperating and working effectively.
  • Maintain a calm and optimistic demeanor, having confidence in your planning and the potential for success.
  • The GTO may increase the level of difficulty by asking you to ignore certain structures or change the colour code. They may also require multiple solutions.
  • When acting as a helper, demonstrate maximum cooperation and loyalty.
  • The Command task evaluates a candidate's common sense and their ability to give commands. It also assesses their capacity to work under stress, with increasing difficulty.

This task allows the GTO to challenge their previous assumptions about a candidate and gain a detailed understanding of each individual.
