Charles III crowned as King of UK at historic ceremony in London

King Charles III has been officially crowned at a historic ceremony in London on May 6. The Coronation took place at Westminster Abbey and was witnessed by over two thousand guests and dignitaries. During the ceremony, the Archbishop of Canterbury placed the St Edward's Crown on King Charles's head. Following the crowning of the King, his wife, Camilla, was also crowned as Queen. Gun salutes were conducted at 13 locations across the UK, including London, Edinburgh, and Hillsborough, to commemorate this momentous occasion. Additionally, the bells of Westminster Abbey rang for two minutes.

BharatPe launches PAYBACK India as 'Zillion'

BharatPe Group, a prominent name in India's fintech industry, has announced the rebranding of PAYBACK India, the multi-brand loyalty program, as 'Zillion'. This rebranding aligns with BharatPe's vision to make Zillion a ubiquitous loyalty and rewards platform across the country. BMC to set up Asia's largest bio-gas plant in Mumbai

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) are collaborating to establish Asia's largest bio-gas plant in Mumbai. This upcoming plant will have the capacity to treat 1,000 tonnes of wet waste per day. It aims to recycle damp, organic, and degradable waste, which accounts for 3,500 tonnes of the daily solid waste generated in Mumbai. By treating nearly one-third of the city's daily wet waste, the plant aims to repurpose waste for beneficial use.
The BMC will supply the segregated wet waste to the plant, where MGL will treat it to produce gas and supply it back to the city. Currently, the BMC's solid waste management department operates five vehicles in each municipal ward for the transportation of wet waste to scientific treatment centers.

India's Bindyarani Devi wins silver at Asian Championships

Indian weightlifter Bindyarani Devi secured the silver medal in the women's 55kg event at the Asian Championships. Despite a less impressive performance in the snatch, Bindyarani made up for it by lifting the second-highest weight in the clean and jerk category, securing the silver medal. Her snatch attempts of 80kg and 83kg were successful, although her final attempt at 85kg was not counted.
Due to an injury sustained prior to the selection trials, Bindyarani competed in the 55kg weight division, reverting from the 59kg category she participated in during the previous year's World Championships, where she finished 25th.

World Athletics Day

World Athletics Day is observed on May 7 to promote sports activities worldwide and encourage athleticism among youngsters. This day was initially introduced as a social responsibility project called "Athletics for a better world" by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). Border Roads Organisation Raising Day: India

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) was established on May 7, 1960, as a leading road construction agency under the Ministry of Defence. The motto of the BRO is "Shramena Sarvam Sadhyam" (everything is achievable through hard work). On May 7, 2023, the BRO will celebrate its 64th Raising Day. To commemorate the contributions of its workforce in nation-building, the BRO is organizing the "Ekta Evam Shradhanjali Abhiyan," a multi-modal expedition as part of the celebrations.
The expedition teams will be flagged in by Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Ajay Bhatt in Pune on May 7, 2023. The Border Roads Organisation, a statutory body under the Ministry of Defence, is responsible for developing and maintaining road networks in India's border areas and neighboring countries. With over 53,000 km of roads under its responsibility, the BRO also undertakes maintenance works and executes strategic projects to meet the requirements of the Indian Army.

BEL signed MoU with Emjay for joint manufacture & business development of bollards

Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Emjay Control Systems Pvt Ltd to collaborate in the joint manufacture and business development of electro-mechanical bollards. These bollards will be used for the defense, homeland security, paramilitary, and export projects. The indigenously designed bollards are capable of withstanding the impact of heavy vehicles carrying explosives, weighing from 24,000 to 150,000 kgs and traveling at speeds of 80-100 kmph.
The collaboration aligns with the Government of India's initiatives such as Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat. Emjay Control Systems Pvt Ltd, based in Bengaluru, is a leading manufacturer of Automatic Retractable Bollards under the brand name ISEQ (International Security Equipment). BEL, established in 1954 under the Ministry of Defence, is a renowned Navratna PSU that manufactures and supplies state-of-the-art defense electronics and systems.
