DRDO & Indian Navy Successfully Test Trial Indigenous Air Droppable Container

The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy conducted a successful maiden test trial of an indigenous Air Droppable Container called 'ADC-150.' The test trial took place off the coast of Goa, with the ADC-150 being dropped from an IL 38SD aircraft. This container has a payload capacity of 150 kg and was designed and developed within India.
The purpose of the trial was to enhance the naval operational logistics capabilities by providing a quick response to meet the requirement of critical engineering stores for ships deployed over 2,000 km away from the coast. By using the ADC-150, the need for ships to approach the coast to collect spares and stores is reduced.
The development of the ADC-150 container involved three DRDO laboratories: Naval Science & Technological Laboratory (NSTL) in Visakhapatnam, Aerial Delivery Research & Development Establishment (ADRDE) in Agra, and Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) in Bengaluru. The flight clearance certification was granted by the Regional Center for Military Airworthiness (RCMA) in Kanpur, which is headed by the Centre for Military Airworthiness & Certification (CEMILAC) in Bengaluru.

ASEAN India Maritime Exercise, AIME-2023

The Indian Naval Ships Satpura and Delhi, with Rear Admiral Gurcharan Singh, the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet embarked onboard, arrived in Singapore to participate in the Inaugural ASEAN India Maritime Exercise (AIME-2023). The exercise is scheduled to take place from 2nd to 8th May 2023.
The Harbour Phase of the exercise will be held at Changi Naval Base from 2nd to 4th May 2023, followed by the Sea Phase in the South China Sea from 7th to 8th May 2023. AIME 2023 aims to strengthen cooperation between the Indian Navy and ASEAN navies, enabling them to conduct seamless operations in the maritime domain.
The participating Indian Navy ships, INS Delhi and INS Satpura, are equipped with advanced weapons and sensors. During their port call at Singapore, the ships will also take part in the International Maritime Defence Exhibition (IMDEX-23) and the International Maritime Security Conference (IMSC).

Mahatma Gandhi's Grandson Arun Gandhi Passes Away

Arun Gandhi, the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, passed away at the age of 89. He was the son of Sushila and Manilal Gandhi. Arun Gandhi referred to himself as a "Peace Farmer" and left behind his son Tushar, daughter Archana, four grandsons, and five great-grandchildren. The final rites were held in Kolhapur.
Arun Gandhi authored several books, including "Kasturba, The Forgotten Woman," "Grandfather Gandhi" (co-authored with Bethany Hegedus and illustrated by Evan Turk), and "The Gift of Anger: And other lessons from my grandfather Mahatma Gandhi." Born on April 14, 1934, in Durban, he followed in his grandfather's footsteps as an activist.

Air Marshal Saju Balakrishnan, AVSM, VM appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command

Air Marshal Saju Balakrishnan, AVSM, VM has taken over as the 17th Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command (CINCAN). The Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) is India's only Joint-services Command and serves as a model for the country's planned theaterisation of Army, Navy, and Air Force capabilities.
Air Marshal Saju Balakrishnan, a distinguished alumnus of the National Defence Academy Khadakwasla, was commissioned into the fighter stream of the Indian Air Force (IAF) in 1986. He has over 3200 accident-free fighter flying hours on various variants of MIG-21 and Kiran aircraft and is an accomplished fighter combat leader.
Throughout his career, he has held various key positions, including Commanding Officer of a Bison Squadron, the first Commanding Officer of an AWACS Squadron, and Air Officer Commanding at AF Station Jodhpur. Prior to assuming command of ANC, he served as the Senior Air Staff Officer at the IAF Training Command in Bengaluru.

Justice TS Sivagnanam Appointed as Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court

Justice T. S. Sivagnanam, the senior most judge of the Calcutta High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the High Court. He is currently serving as the Acting Chief Justice. The appointment of Justice Sivagnanam was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium on February 9. The Calcutta High Court, established in 1862 under the Indian High Courts Act, is one of the oldest and most prestigious high courts in India. It has jurisdiction over the state of West Bengal and the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Justice S.V. Bhatti Appointed Acting Chief Justice of Kerala

Justice S.V. Bhatti has been appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of Kerala. He succeeds Justice S. Manikumar, who retired recently. Justice Bhatti began his career as a lawyer in Hyderabad in 1987 and has served as the standing counsel for several public sector companies. He has also held the position of special government pleader in the High Court of Andhra Pradesh. Justice Bhatti hails from Madanapalli in Andhra Pradesh.

World Asthma Day

World Asthma Day, organized by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA), is an annual event aimed at improving asthma awareness and care worldwide. It is observed on the first Tuesday of May. Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease that affects breathing. While it cannot be cured, it can be managed to reduce and prevent asthma attacks.
The theme for the 2023 World Asthma Day is "Asthma care for All." The majority of asthma-related morbidity and mortality occurs in low and middle-income countries. GINA strives to reduce this burden by promoting the availability and access to effective, quality-assured medications. The message of "Asthma care for All" encourages the development and implementation of effective asthma management programs in all resource countries.

Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs Signs MoU with RITES for Technical Support

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with RITES Limited to accelerate Solid Waste and Used Water Management under Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0. The Technical Support Unit (TSU) of RITES will assist SBM-U for a period of 3 years.
Under Solid Waste Management (SWM), the areas of engagement will include process standardization and engineering design of waste management facilities such as Material Recovery Facility and legacy waste. Under Used Water Management (UWM), RITES will provide technical support for standards and specifications in the field of sewage and faecal sludge management and reuse, as well as engineering design and processes for wastewater treatment units. RITES will also assist in the preparation of model tender documents and procurement in the field of sewage, wastewater management, and solid waste management.

Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman, has launched a book titled 'Reflections' written by renowned banker Narayanan Vaghul. The book provides a vivid account of Vaghul's experiences spanning decades in India's financial landscape. During the launch, Nirmala Sitharaman praised Vaghul for his extensive banking experience and leadership qualities.
Narayanan Vaghul is a philanthropist and an ex-banker professional from India. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in the Trade and Industry category in 2010 by the Government of India.
