Bangladesh: Dhaka records highest temperature in 58 years

The scorching heat wave in Bangladesh persists across various regions of the country, with the meteorological department forecasting its continuation in the coming days. On Saturday, the capital city of Dhaka experienced its hottest day in 58 years, as the temperature soared to 40.4 degrees Celsius. This marks the highest temperature since 1965 when the record reached 42 degrees Celsius.
Another city, Chuadanga, located in the mid-western region, recorded a maximum temperature of 42.2 degrees on the same day. In 1964, Bangladesh witnessed its highest temperature of 44.5 degrees in Jashore. On Saturday, several districts in Bangladesh, including Dhaka, Faridpur, Manikganj, Bagerhat, Pabna, Jashore, Chuadanga, and Kushtia, experienced a severe heatwave.

Rajasthan's Nandini Gupta Crowned as Femina Miss India 2023

Nandini Gupta from Rajasthan has been crowned Femina Miss India World 2023. The first runner-up position was secured by Shreya Poonja from Delhi, while Thounaojam Strela Luwang from Manipur claimed the second runner-up spot. Nandini, aged 19 and hailing from Kota, which is known as a prominent education hub for engineering and medical students in the country, possesses both beauty and intelligence.
She holds a degree in business management and is determined to overcome challenges. Shreya Poonja, a native of Delhi, was awarded the first runner-up title, and Thounaojam Strela Luwang was named the second runner-up. The grand finale of the esteemed 59th season of India's most renowned pageant took place in an impressive ceremony at the Indoor Stadium, Khuman Lampak, in Imphal, Manipur, providing a captivating setting for the mesmerizing event.

SSC GD Exam to be held in 13 regional languages

The Ministry of Home Affairs has achieved a significant milestone by deciding to conduct the Constable (General Duty) examination for the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) in 13 regional languages, in addition to Hindi and English. The inclusion of languages such as Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Odia, Urdu, Punjabi, Manipuri, and Konkani, apart from English and Hindi, aims to encourage local youth to participate in the CAPF and promote regional languages.
This decision is expected to attract a higher number of candidates who can now take the exam in their native or regional language, thereby increasing their chances of success. To facilitate the implementation of the exam in multiple languages, an addendum to the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed between the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Staff Selection Commission (SSC). The Constable GD exam conducted by the Staff Selection Commission is one of their flagship tests, attracting thousands of applicants from all corners of the country. The exam in 13 regional languages will come into effect on January 1, 2024.

World Voice Day

World Voice Day (WVD), observed annually on April 16, is a global event dedicated to celebrating the phenomenon of the voice. The main objective is to highlight the immense importance of the voice in the daily lives of people. The voice plays a crucial role in effective and healthy communication, and World Voice Day aims to raise global awareness about the need for preventing voice problems, rehabilitating damaged voices, training for artistic purposes, and researching the function and application of the voice.
This celebration originated in Brazil in 1999 as the Brazilian National Voice Day and later expanded to other countries like Argentina and Portugal, eventually becoming the International Voice Day. In 2002, the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery officially recognized this celebration, and it was subsequently named "World Voice Day." The objective of World Voice Day is to encourage individuals who use their voice for professional or personal purposes to learn how to take care of their vocal health, seek assistance and training when needed, and support research in the field of voice.

India signs MoU with World Food Programme for sending wheat to Afghanistan

India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Food Programme (WFP) to dispatch 10,000 metric tonnes of wheat to the people of Afghanistan. The signing ceremony, held in Mumbai, brought together the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the United Nations (WPF).
The WFP assured that it possesses the necessary on-ground infrastructure to ensure the speedy delivery of wheat to the most vulnerable sections of Afghanistan's population. With a well-established supply chain and logistics infrastructure in Afghanistan, the WFP can ensure that food supplies reach those in need and that no one is left out.
The MoU also guarantees coordinated and efficient delivery of assistance to the most vulnerable groups in Afghanistan. The WFP, a humanitarian organization under the United Nations, was established in 1961 and is headquartered in Rome, Italy. It is the world's largest agency focused on combating hunger and promoting food security.

NHAI signs MoU with Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve to enable FAST tag

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has signed an MoU with the Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve, which spans across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, to facilitate a seamless and efficient entry process for vehicles entering the forest area. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways stated that the initiative aims to introduce a FASTag-based payment system at forest entry points.
This collaboration will enable the collection of the Ecosystem Management Coordination fee through FASTag at various entrance points of the Tiger Reserve. By implementing this partnership between the Indian Highways Management Company Limited and the Forest Department, the goal is to promote sustainable tourism and preserve natural resources by reducing vehicular emissions at forest entry points. Visitors will benefit from avoiding long queues and delays. This MoU is a significant step towards enhancing visitor experience while protecting the environment.

Shri Amit Shah presented "Maharashtra Bhushan" award for the year 2022 to Dr. Appasaheb Dharmadhikari

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, presented the "Maharashtra Bhushan" award for the year 2022 to Dr. Appasaheb Dharmadhikari in Raigarh, Maharashtra. Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis, and various other dignitaries were present at the occasion.
This award holds special significance as it is the first time that two individuals from the same family have been honored with this prestigious recognition. Dr. Appasaheb Dharmadhikari, a well-known social reformist, inherits his reputation from his late father Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari. The Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari Pratishthan, under his leadership, carries out several social welfare activities, including child rights classes, health camps, blood donation camps, de-addiction programs, environmental conservation, and educational material distribution.
Appasaheb's remarkable work continues uninterrupted. In recognition of his contributions, he was previously honored with the Padma Shri award. His social endeavors also earned him an honorary doctorate degree from D. Y. Patil University, and he was appointed as the state's cleanliness ambassador by former Governor Vidyasagar Rao. In 2017, the central government conferred upon him the prestigious civil honor of Padma Shri. The European International Institute also recognized his achievements by presenting him with the Living Legend Award. Considering his illustrious career, the Maharashtra government selected him as the recipient of the Maharashtra Bhushan Award.

Chennai Metro launches Singara Chennai Card in association with SBI

Chennai Metro Rail Ltd, in collaboration with SBI as its banking partner, launched the Singara Chennai Card (NCMC - National Common Mobility Card). Currently, the Singara Chennai cards can be used at Chennai metro stations and other metro networks that accept RuPay NCMC cards, including the MMRDA Mumbai Line 2A & 7, Bangalore Metro, Delhi Metro Airport Line, Kanpur Metro, as well as for BEST Buses in Mumbai and Kadamba Transport Buses in Goa.
In the future, consumers will be able to utilize the card for travel on buses, suburban railways, toll payments, parking, smart city services, and retail shops in various parts of the country.
