India Ranked 77th in World's "Most Criminal Countries"

According to the recent ranking released by World of Statistics, India has been placed at the 77th position in the list of the world's "most criminal countries." The top spots on the list are occupied by Venezuela, Papua New Guinea, and Afghanistan. India is ranked below the United States and the United Kingdom, which secured the 55th and 65th positions, respectively.
On the other hand, Turkey, Germany, and Japan are among the least criminal countries. The ranking is based on the overall crime rate, which is calculated by dividing the total number of reported crimes by the total population and multiplying the result by 100,000.

Solar Energy Corporation Upgraded to Miniratna Category-I Status

The Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd (SECI), a state-owned company, has achieved the status of a Miniratna Category-I Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE). The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has officially communicated this development. SECI, established in 2011, serves as the primary implementing agency for renewable energy projects in line with India's international commitments.
It has awarded over 56 GW of Renewable Energy (RE) project capacities to date. SECI also acts as a Project Management Consultant (PMC) for setting up projects for other public sector entities. The company enjoys the highest credit rating of AAA from domestic rating agency ICRA.

Antim Pangal Wins Silver at Asian Wrestling Championships

Antim Pangal, an Indian wrestler, has secured the silver medal in the 53-kg category at the 2023 Asian Wrestling Championships held in Astana, Kazakhstan. Antim faced tough competition from Japan's Akari Fujinami, the reigning world champion, who successfully defended her Asian crown. Despite a strong start by Antim, Fujinami dominated the match and emerged victorious in the first round.

Veteran Actor Uttara Baokar Passes Away at 79

Baokar, an alumna of the National School of Drama (NSD), played diverse roles in numerous plays and TV shows throughout her career. Some notable performances include 'Padmavati' in 'Mukyamantri,' 'Mena' in 'Mena Gurjari,' 'Desdemona' in Shakespeare's 'Othello,' and the mother in Girish Karnad's 'Tughlaq.'

Remembering the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre

Today marks the 104th anniversary of the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, which took place on April 13, 1919, in Amritsar, India. During a protest against the repressive Rowlatt Act, General Reginald Dyer's forces opened fire on an unarmed crowd, resulting in the tragic loss of lives. The Rowlatt Act granted the British colonial government the power to imprison individuals suspected of sedition without trial.
Around 400 to 1,000 people were killed, and over 1,200 were injured during the massacre. The incident sparked widespread outrage and led to significant repercussions. General Dyer was relieved of his duty following the Hunter Commission's report, and a memorial was erected in Amritsar to honor the victims.

World Sarcoidosis Awareness Day: Shedding Light on an Inflammatory Disease

On April 13th, World Sarcoidosis Day is observed to raise awareness about this inflammatory disease. Sarcoidosis is characterized by the growth of tiny collections of inflammatory cells in various parts of the body, with the lungs and lymph nodes being commonly affected. The two-day Second Women 20 International Meeting commenced today in Jaipur, Rajasthan, under India's G20 Presidency. Women 20 (W20) is an official G20 engagement group focused on advancing women-led development for an inclusive and sustainable future. The meeting's theme revolves around leveraging women's untapped potential to drive development.
During the inaugural session, Amitabh Kant, India's Sherpa in the G20, emphasized the priority given to women-led development in India, recognizing women as drivers of prosperity and inclusive growth. He highlighted the importance of women setting the agenda for development and being agents of growth.
Amitabh Kant also highlighted India's achievements in digital inclusion, including the opening of women's bank accounts linked with Aadhaar and the direct transfer of funds for various schemes. The Second Women 20 International Meeting brings together approximately 120 women leaders from 18 G20 countries to share experiences and promote women's empowerment.
