Class 8 Social-Science Chapter 1 HOTS Questions - Resources

Q1: What do you mean by resource?
Ans:
The goods that satisfy human requirements and consumptions are referred to as resources.

Q2: What are the different types of resources?
Ans:
Natural resources, human resources, and man-made resources are all different forms of resources.

Q3: Describe abiotic resources.
Ans:
Abiotic resources are those that are made up of non-living objects. These are non-renewable resources that cannot be replenished.

Q4: How can Humans make the best use of natural resources?
Ans:
Knowledge, skill, and technology may help humans make the most of natural resources.

Q5: The resources on earth are distributed unequally, why?
Ans:
Since the planet has various terrains in different regions and has different climates and elevations, there is an unequal distribution of natural resources around the world. This is the explanation for water scarcity in some areas and excess in others. Similarly, soil fertility is good in one region but not so good in another.

Q6: What will happen if the natural resources disappear?
Ans:
The disappearance of all kinds of life on Earth would result from the depletion of natural resources. This is why planets other than Earth are unsuitable for life to exist on.

Q7: Define resource conservation.
Ans:
Resource conservation refers to the careful utilisation of natural resources to ensure that they are not depleted for future generations. In a nutshell, resource conservation is reserving resources for the future.

Q8: Define sustainable development.
Ans:
Sustainable development entails striking a balance between our need to utilise existing resources and safeguarding these natural resources for future generations.

Q9: Human resources are an important entity, why?
Ans:
People and their contributions are referred to as human resources. In order to maximise the use of natural resources, it is necessary to have a large number of highly competent human resources on hand who can use their knowledge and technology to both enhance and develop new resources. As a result, human resources are seen as extremely important.

Q10: Describe the different types of Natural resources.
Ans:
Natural resources are categorised in two types – Renewable resources- Renewable resources are those that do not require human consumption. With human intervention, these supplies are replenished. However, some renewable resources, such as water, soil, and forests, are negatively impacted by human usage. Non-renewable resources- When the supply of a resource is finite, it is referred to as a nonrenewable resource. These resources are depleting as a result of human consumption. It takes hundreds of years to replenish these resources. Coal and petroleum are examples of these types of resources.
