Q3: Using the numbers from 5 to 13, construct a 3 × 3 magic square. What is the magic sum here? What relation is there between the magic sum and the number in the central cell?
Sol:
Using the numbers from 5 to 13, a 3 × 3 magic square is constructed as shown above:
Considering the above drawn magic square, the magic sum is 9 × 3=27.
Hence, the relation between the magic sum and the number in the central cell is that if we multiply the middle number to 3 (middle number × 3), then we get the magic sum.

Q6: Draw a magic triangle whose magic number's sum is 11.
Sol:
Consider the given question,
We take numbers are 1 , 2, 3,4, 5 and 6
We put the numbers as that sum of every side is equal to be 11.
6 + 1 + 4 = 11
4 + 5 + 2 = 11
6 + 3 + 2 = 11

Q7: Arrange the given words in the sequence in which they occur in the dictionary and then choose the correct sequence.
(i) Protein
(ii) Problem
(iii) Proverb
(iv) Property
(v) Project.
(a) 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
(b) 2, 1, 4,3 , 5
(c) 2, 5, 4, 1, 3
(d) 3, 4, 5, 2, 1
Ans:
(c)
Sol:
Firstly, check the first letter ( P for all )
Now, check the second and third letter similarly, (Pro for all)
Now, check the fourth letter
( b < j < p < t < v ) should be the corrct alphabetical order
Hence the order will be 2,5,4,1,3

Q8: Using the numbers from 9 to 17, construct a 3 × 3 magic square. What is the magic sum here? What relation is there between the magic sum and the number in the central cell?
Sol:
Using the numbers from 9 to 17, a 3 × 3 magic square is constructed as shown above:
Considering the above drawn magic square, the magic sum is 13 × 3 = 39.
Hence, the relation between the magic sum and the number in the central cell is that if we multiply the middle number to 3 (middle number × 3), then we get the magic sum.

Q10: My secret number is larger than half of 50. can you guess my secret number?
(a) 26
(b) 24
(c) 25
(d) None of these
Ans:
(a)
Sol: As secret number is half more than 50 means secret number is more than 50/2
∴ number is more than 25.
Among options only number more than 25 is 26
So, correct answer is (A)

Q12: In a row of boys, Srinath is 7th  from the left and Venkat is 12th from the right. If they interchange their positions, Srinath becomes 22nd from the left. How many boys are there in the row?
Sol:
Srinath is 7th  from the left and Venkat is 12th  from the right.
Now ,If they interchange their positions, Srinath becomes 22nd  from the left.
So, Srinath is 22 from left and 12  from right.
So, he has 21 boys before him and 11 boys after him.
So, total number of boys = number of boys before him +Number of boys after him + Srinath
= 21 + 11 + 1 = 33
Hence there are 33 boys

Q13: In a row of plants, a plant is 16th from either end of the row. How many trees are there in the row ?
Sol:
A plant is 16th  from either end of the row.
So, it have 15 plants in front and 15 plants behind.
Thus, number of plants = 15 + 15 + 1   [Including the mentioned plant]
= 31
Hence, number of plant is 31.

Q14: In two-digit numbers, how many times does the digit 5 occur in the unit's place?
Sol:
15,25,35,45,55,65,75,85,95 are the two digit numbers which have 5 at units place. Total numbers are 9.

Q15: The given figure represents a weighing balance. The weights of some objects in the balance are given.
Find the weight of each square and the circle.
Class 5 Maths Chapter 7 HOTS Questions - Chapter 7 - Can you see the patternSol:
Since weight is balanced
⇒ Weight on L.H.S = Weight of R.H.S
⇒ 20 + 20 =14 + 4 + x    (suppose x is the weight of circle)
⇒ 40 =18 + x
⇒ x = 40 − 18 = 22 kg
∴ the weight of the circle is 22 kg.
