Detailed Summary

Once upon a time, there was a renowned Bengali magician named Surapati Mondol. He was on his way to Lucknow for a grand performance. Sitting in the train, Surapati drifted into a nostalgic reverie, thinking about his mentors who had inspired him, especially his first teacher, Tripuracharan Mallik.

Tripuracharan had a unique trick of making a coin roll towards a ring and then magically bringing both back to the magician. As Surapati was lost in his thoughts, he was abruptly brought back to reality when a man entered his train carriage. To his astonishment, it was none other than Tripura Babu, his long-lost mentor Tripuracharan Mallik. Surapati was speechless, surprised to see him after believing he was no longer alive. Tripura Babu, looking worse for wear, shared his financial struggles with Surapati and made a peculiar request. He asked Surapati to allow him to perform on stage in Lucknow in his place and offered to split the earnings from the show.

Surapati was taken aback by this proposal, feeling conflicted about fulfilling his own dreams versus helping his old mentor. Tripura Babu then demonstrated his mysterious powers by manipulating a deck of cards, hinting at his ability to influence magicians and their performances. He challenged Surapati to accept his offer by showing him a magic trick with a coin and a ring. Surapati, overwhelmed by fear and curiosity, eventually agreed to Tripura Babu's terms.

During the train journey, Surapati fell into a deep sleep, and when he woke up, he believed Tripura Babu had been a figment of his imagination. However, he was surprised to find his ring and coin in his possession, realizing that Tripura Babu's presence had been real. Upon reaching Lucknow, Surapati paid homage to his late guru, Tripuracharan Mallik, during his performance. The highlight of the show was the trick of the coin and the ring, symbolizing the passing of knowledge and magic from one generation to another.

In the end, Surapati's journey not only led him to fulfill his dreams of becoming a successful magician but also reinforced the importance of honoring one's mentors and staying true to one's principles. This chapter beautifully captures the essence of mentorship, sacrifice, and the timeless magic of passing knowledge from one magician to another.
