A Rupee Goes a Long Way Summary Class 5 English Gul Mohar

Summary

Ranji had a one-rupee coin and went to a sweet shop to buy jalebis. But the shopkeeper said the coin was too old to be used. So, Ranji kept the coin and went on his way. He met his friend Mohinder Singh, who had a fishing rod. Ranji wanted to borrow it, but Mohinder offered to sell it for two rupees. Ranji only had one old rupee that the sweet seller wouldn't accept. Mohinder's uncle collected old coins, so he took a look at it. He said it wasn't worth much but offered to trade the rod for the coin. Ranji agreed and happily took the fishing rod.

Ranji then got a ride from a truck to the river to go fishing. Unfortunately, there wasn't much water in the river, so he couldn't catch any fish. Disappointed, he walked back to the bazaar. Along the way, he met a boy playing a flute. They decided to exchange the fishing rod for the flute. Ranji tried playing it, and although it made a loud noise, he liked it.

Soon, another boy came along and played a beautiful tune on the flute. He offered to trade the flute for a rupee. Ranji didn't have money, but he exchanged it for a pretty necklace with colorful stones. The boy said the stones were special and came from near Tibet. Ranji knew they weren't worth much, but they were lovely.

Ranji met Koki, a girl from his neighborhood, and she liked the necklace. He asked for one rupee, and she didn't have it at first. But eventually, she gave him a new rupee for the necklace. Ranji rushed to the sweet shop, exchanged the rupee for jalebis, and shared them with Koki.
