On November 16, 2022, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, chaired a Cabinet meeting that approved the state's New Tourism Policy-2022.

Key Points

  • The recently endorsed tourism policy introduces a subsidy based on investment for the hotel industry. Investments up to Rs 10 crore will receive a subsidy of up to Rs 2 crore, while investments exceeding Rs 500 crore will be eligible for a subsidy of up to Rs 40 crore. Furthermore, hotels will be granted industrial status, leading to categorization of water, electricity, property tax, and sewerage tax rates as industrial rather than commercial.
  • The policy outlines the development of the Ramayana circuit, concentrating on locations associated with Lord Ram, and the Krishna circuit, dedicated to religious sites linked with Lord Krishna. Noteworthy sites on the Ramayana circuit include Ayodhya, Chitrakoot, Bithoor, and other religious locations symbolizing Lord Rama and Mother Sita.
  • Similarly, the Krishna circuit encompasses Mathura, Vrindavan, Gokul, Govardhan, Barsana, Nandgaon, Baldev, and other significant religious places. Additionally, the Buddhist circuit covers Kapilvastu, Sarnath, Kushinagar, Kaushambi, Shravasti, Ramgram, and other associated sites.
  • The new policy introduces the Mahabharata Circuit and Shakti Peetha Circuit, including places like Hastinapur, Kampilya, Echhatra, Barnawa, Mathura, Kaushambi, Gonda, and Lakshagriha. The Shaktipeeth circuit extends from Vindhyavasini Devi to Devipatan, encompassing Naimisharanya, Maa Lalit Devi, Maa Jwala Devi, Shakumbhari Devi, Shivani Devi in Chitrakoot, and Sheetla Mata Mau.
  • Cabinet Minister AK Sharma emphasized that the new policy broadens tourism-related activities, covering budget hotels, heritage hotels, star hotels, heritage and homestays, eco-tourism units, caravan tourism units, pilgrim dormitories, Dharamshalas, wellness resorts, all-weather seasonal camps, reservoir lakes, wellness tourism, adventure tourism, totaling 22 activities.
