Basic Tenses Important Notes - Class 1 English Olympiad | Fully Solved Notes For Students
What are Tenses?
Tenses - the way we talk about when things happen. We have three special tenses: present, past, and future.
- Present Tense: Present tense talks about things that are happening right now.
- Example: I eat an apple.
- Past Tense: Past tense talks about things that already happened.
- Example: Yesterday, I ate an apple.
- Future Tense: Future tense talks about things that will happen.
- Example: Tomorrow, I will eat an apple.
How to Change Tenses?
- Present to Past:
- Add "-ed" to regular verbs: walk → walked.
- Change the word for irregular verbs: go → went.
- Present to Future:
- Use "will" or "going to" before the verb: will eat, am going to play.
- Past to Present:
- Remove "-ed" from regular verbs: walked → walk.
Change the word back for irregular verbs: went → go.
Practice Time
Q1: Change the following sentence to past tense:
"I play with my friends."
Ans: Past Tense: I played with my friends.
Q2: Change the following sentence to future tense:
"She sings a song."
Ans: Future Tense: She will sing a song.
