Greater Than and Less Than Signs | Maths for UKG PDF Download

Introduction

In mathematics, we use different signs to compare numbers. These signs help us understand which number is greater, which is smaller, or if they are equal. In this chapter, we will learn about three important signs: '>', '<', and '='.

Greater Than ('>')

  • The symbol '>' is called the "greater than" sign.
  • It is used to compare two numbers and show that the number on the left is greater than the number on the right.
  • For example, 5 > 3 means that 5 is greater than 3.

Less Than ('<')

  • The symbol '<' is called the "less than" sign.
  • It is used to compare two numbers and show that the number on the left is smaller than the number on the right.
  • For example, 2 < 7 means that 2 is less than 7.

Equal To ('=')

  • The symbol '=' is called the "equal to" sign.
  • It is used to show that two numbers are the same or equal.
  • For example, 4 = 4 means that 4 is equal to 4.

Examples

  • 6 > 3
Here, 6 is greater than 3.
  • 2 < 9
Here, 2 is less than 9.
  • 5 = 5
Here, 5 is equal to 5.

Summary

  • We use signs like '>', '<', and '=' to compare numbers.
  • '>' means greater than, '<' means less than, and '=' means equal to.
  • Practice comparing numbers to become a math pro!
