History

Andhra Pradesh Districts (Formation) Act, 1974

• In 1974, the Andhra Pradesh Districts (Formation) Act was enacted, granting specific powers.
• It authorized the Governor of Andhra Pradesh to make administrative changes for better governance and development.

Creation of Konaseema District

• On April 4, 2022, the Konaseema District was officially established, modifying the boundaries of the existing East Godavari District.
• This change was implemented to enhance administration and foster growth in the designated area.

Sankranti Festival - A Celebration of Harvest

• Sankranti, a significant festival in Andhra Pradesh, is widely celebrated in the Konaseema region.

Prabhala Teertham Festival

• The festival is observed in various areas of the Konaseema region, including Madanaplli, Gollavilli, Vadaparru in Uppalaguptam mandal, Ambajipeta, Machavaram, Thondavaram in Ambajipeta mandal, Madanapalli, Vanapalli in Kothapeta mandal, and other regions of Konaseema.

Sri Bala Balaji Devasthanam

• Sri Bala Balaji Devasthanam is situated in Appanapalli, a secluded village in Mamidikuru, approximately 72 kilometers away from Kakinada via Yanam. 
• Often referred to as the second Tirupati of Konaseema, this sacred place is surrounded by the Godavari River on three sides. 
• Visitors can easily find comfortable lodging in decent guest houses and TTD Choultries. The temple gets its name from a revered Rishi.

Sri Veereswara Swamy Vari Temple in Muramalla

• Muramalla, located around 20 kilometers from Amalapuram, is home to the renowned Sri Veereswara Swamy Vari Temple. 
• It is believed that individuals facing challenges in finding suitable marriage proposals or experiencing difficulties in marriage can find solace by visiting this temple. 
• Additionally, childless couples and those struggling in their relationships seek blessings here.

Sri Uma Kouppulingeswara Swamy Temple in Palivela

• Palivela, situated approximately 20.5 kilometers from Amalapuram, is known for the Sri Uma Kouppulingeswara Swamy Temple. 
• Legend has it that the idol within the temple was consecrated by Maharshi Agastya. 
• The temple complex once had seven Mandapas, each named after a day of the week.

Jaganadh Swamy Temple in Ryali

• Ryali, positioned 37.8 kilometers away from Amalapuram, is a picturesque destination nestled between the Vashista and Gowtami rivers.

Pallalamma Ammavaru Devasthanam in Vanapalli

• The temple dedicated to Sri 'Pallalamma' Ammavaru is renowned for its reputed healing powers. 
• Interestingly, an idol of a jackal was discovered beneath the main deity.

Peruru

• Peruru, a quaint village near Amalapuram in Konaseema district, Andhra Pradesh, offers a glimpse into a bygone era of Andhra Pradesh.
