B. Answer these questions briefly.

1. Why did Jim think that there was someone atop the hil~, among the trees?
Ans: Jim thought that there was someone atop the hill, among the trees because he saw stones rolling down and a figure running from one tree to the next.

 2. Describe the man whom Jim came across on the island.
Ans: The man whom Jim came across on the island was Ben Gunn, a strange-looking figure with long, snow-white hair and beard, burned black by the sun, with blue eyes, wearing rags for clothes.

3. How did the man on the island come to be there?
Ans: The man on the island, Ben Gunn, came to be there because he was marooned by his shipmates after they failed to find the treasure he had told them about.

4. What food item did Ben ask Jim for, and why?
Ans: Ben Gunn asked Jim for cheese because he had been longing for proper food, and he had often dreamt of cheese during his three years of solitude.

C. Think and answer the questions.

1. Do you think that Ben Gunn had found the hidden treasure? Support your answer with evidence from the story.

Ans: It is implied that Ben Gunn may have found the hidden treasure because he claims to be rich and promises Jim a share, but he could also be delusional from his time alone. However, his knowledge of Flint’s actions and his offer to help suggest he might indeed know where the treasure is.

2. Why do you think Ben decided not to go with Jim to the ship?

Ans: Ben Gunn probably decided not to go with Jim to the ship because he feared Long John Silver and his men, as indicated by his reaction when he pressed Jim’s hand hard and questioned him about Silver.
