Traditional Festivals of Kinnaur District

• Chaitra Festival: The Chaitra festival takes place in the village of Chhagaon during the month of Chaitra. It is a significant celebration that marks a time of community gathering and cultural festivities.
• Beeshu Festival: The Beeshu festival is observed in areas where the Chaitra festival is not celebrated. It holds its own unique cultural importance and traditions, distinct from the Chaitra festivities.
• Dakreni or Dakrain Festival: The Dakreni or Dakrain festival occurs in July-August in Pangi. This fair kicks off with the singing of traditional songs, bringing together the community in a celebration filled with cultural significance.
• Ukhyang or Phulaich Festival: The Ukhyang or Phulaich festival is a vibrant event that starts in Rupi during the month of Bhadra (August) and in Pangi in Kartika (October-November). Rajputs from the village embark on a journey to the hills to gather flowers, fostering a sense of community and tradition through singing and dancing under the Deodar tree.
• Shirkin or Sherkant Festival: The Shirkin or Sherkant festival is a significant cultural event that brings the community together in celebration. It is a time of joy and festivity, marked by various traditional customs and rituals that hold deep cultural significance for the people.
• Kartik Festival: Occurring in the Kartika month (October-November), the Kartik Festival marks the migration of semi-nomadic communities to the sub-mountainous plains along with their sheep flocks.
• Jagro Festival: Celebrated in Morang, Kamru, and Ribba, the Jagro Festival venerates Mahsu Devta, highly revered in these regions.
• Sazo Festival: Observed in January, the Sazo Festival bids adieu to the Devtas who embark on a temporary journey to Paradise during the winter months. The 'Swarga' or paradise of Kinnaur is believed to be at Raldang, a mountain peak forming part of the Kinner Kailash peak range.
• Phagli Festival: Also known as Luskar, the Phagli Festival takes place in the Phagun month, falling around mid-February to March. In Lippa, this festival is celebrated under the name of Lamoch.
• Losar Festival: Commemorated as the New Year among Buddhists in Kinnaur, Lahaul, and Spiti, the Losar Festival is a joyous occasion symbolizing new beginnings.
• Khepa Festival: Khepa Festival is a significant event in the primitive society of Ropa valley, embodying unique cultural practices and traditions.
