Chhattisgarh: Power Sector

  • Chhattisgarh is on track to become India's leading power hub, with an installed capacity of 5,624 MW. The state's abundant coal reserves ensure a steady supply of raw materials for future thermal power projects. The Chhattisgarh government actively supports private power producers in setting up power projects within the state. To promote renewable energy, the state government has established the Chhattisgarh Renewable Energy Development Authority (CREDA). Additionally, the Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Agency (CBDA) has been set up to spearhead an ambitious bio-diesel development program in the state.
  • The government has also established the Chhattisgarh Vidyut Niyamak Ayog (Electricity Regulatory Authority) to oversee the power sector. So far, 60 Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) have been signed for the establishment of power plants in the state, with an anticipated power production of 50,000 MW and a proposed investment of Rs. 2,25,000 crores.
