  • Renuka Yadav, born on 18 July 1994, is a talented female field hockey player from India. She represented the national women's team at the Rio Olympics in 2016, where she was one of the youngest members.
  • Hailing from the Rajnandgaon District of Chhattisgarh, known as "the Hockey Nursery of India," Renuka Yadav made history by becoming the first woman from Chhattisgarh to qualify for the Olympics. She follows in the footsteps of Leslie Claudius as the second Olympian from the region.
  • Saba Anjum Karim is another notable figure in Indian field hockey.

Saba Anjum Karim

  • Saba Anjum Karim (born 12 June 1985, in Durg) is a former member of the Indian women’s hockey team. She was the youngest participant in the hockey competition at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. Saba first represented India in the under-18 AHF Cup in 2000. 
  • Playing as a right-wing forward, she has participated in various international tournaments, including the Asian Games in October 2002, the Asia Cup in February 2004 in Delhi, the Commonwealth Games in 2002 and 2006, the Junior World Cup in May 2001 in Buenos Aires, and the Australian Test Series and New Zealand Tour.
  • Saba hails from Kelabadi, Durg, and has been coached by Tanveer Akil. On 1 November, she was honored with Chhattisgarh’s top sports award, the Gundadhur Award, which is presented annually to individuals who bring honor to the state in national and international sports. The award includes a cash prize of Rs. 1 Lakh and a citation. 
  • The Government of Chhattisgarh also recognized her achievements by appointing her as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). In 2013, Saba was honored with the Arjuna Award by the President of India, and in 2015, she was awarded the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in India.

  • Sanand Salil Mitra (born May 5, 1983) is the proprietor and owner of VAYAM - Visionaries & Entrepreneurs, a pioneering organization in Indian archery. As an international archer and two-time national gold medalist, Sanand has made significant contributions to the national archery circuit since his debut in 2005. He has received several state and national awards in recognition of his achievements.
  • In 2005, he was honored with the Maharaja Praveer Chandra Bhanja Deo Decoration by the state of Chhattisgarh for his outstanding performance in sports. 
  • That same year, he received the S.E.C. Railway GM’s Award for excellence in sports, as well as the Award for Excellence in Sports by Rotary International, Chhattisgarh State. In 2006, he was again recognized with the S.E.C. Railway GM’s Award for excellence in sports, the Award for Excellence in Sports at the International Level by Chhattisgarh Yuva Manch, and the Young Leader’s Award for international representation in sports by Yuva Nav Shakti.
  • In 2008, Sanand was named "Entrepreneur of the Year" by the Entrepreneur’s Council of Pune. In honor of his contributions, a 300-meter stretch of road in Bilaspur was named "Sanand Mitra Marg." In 2011, he received the Sportsman of the Decade Award, Shyam Khel Sammaan, from Dainik Lokmaya.

Sarobindu Nath "Shute" Banerjee

  • Sarobindu Nath "Shute" Banerjee was born on 3 October 1911 in Kolkata, Bengal, and passed away on 14 October 1980 in Kolkata. He played as a cricketer for India in one official and five unofficial Test matches.
  • Known for his right-arm medium pace bowling skills and lower-order batting prowess.

  • Rajesh Chauhan, born on December 19, 1966, in Ranchi, Bihar, is a former Indian cricketer who participated in 21 Tests and 35 ODIs between 1993 and 1998.
  • He formed part of the renowned Indian spin trio alongside Kumble (Leg break) and Raju (Left arm orthodox) during the 1990s.
  • Despite his individual contributions being modest, India did not lose any of the 21 Tests in which he played. One of his notable moments was hitting a decisive six off Saqlain Mushtaq in the final over at Karachi in 1997, securing a four-wicket victory for India over Pakistan.
  • In April 2007, Rajesh Chauhan encountered a severe car accident, sustaining multiple fractures and injuries to his leg, back, hand, and head.
  • Currently residing in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, he manages a business and serves as a PRO at Bhilai Steel Plant.
  • His father, Govind Raja Chauhan, a former cricketer from Ranchi, participated in Ranji Trophy in 1957 and Duleep Trophy in 1964.
  • Their ancestral village is Vidi in Kutch, and they belong to the Kutch Gurjar Kshatriya community.
  • Rajesh also held the position of Chairman of the All-India Youth Wing of the Kutch Gurjar Kshatriya community from 1993 to 1996 and actively contributes to social initiatives within the community.
