Hello, little friends!
Today, we will read a story from Nagaland about a special game called Hekko, which means "Challenging the Tiger." Long ago, humans and tigers played this game to test their strength and courage.
Let's join the brave Aami (the humans) and the mighty Aakho (the tigers) as they play this thrilling game and find out who wins.
Hekko means "Challenging the Tiger." It comes from the Naga words 'Hek' which means to challenge and 'ko' which means tiger. Long ago, humans and animals lived together. One day, they had a fight about who was stronger. The humans challenged the tiger, and that challenge was called Hekko.
Today, Hekko is a popular game in the Mokokchung district of Nagaland. It is played between two teams - Aami (the humans) and Aakho (the tigers). Each team has 11 players. A circle is drawn, and the Aami team stands inside the circle by holding hands. The Aakho team stays outside.
Two Aakho players enter the circle and try to push the Aami players out. If an Aami player goes out, they are out of the game. The Aami players try to catch the Aakho players. When an Aakho player is caught, they must say "Joko," which means I surrender.
The game ends when all Aakho players are caught, all Aami players are pushed out, or when time is over. The team with the most points wins. The fastest Aami player gets the title "Khozuba," and the strongest Aakho player gets the title "Khotiba."
Hekko is a fun and energetic game that shows the bravery, teamwork, and culture of the people of Nagaland. It teaches players to be strong, fair, and united.
The story of Hekko teaches us the importance of teamwork, courage, and fair play. It reminds us that traditional games not only bring joy but also help people stay united and strong. Working together with respect and honesty always leads to true victory.
