1. General Principles of Punishment

  • Section 71 IPC: When one act constitutes two or more offences, liable to punishment for each offence but total punishment not to exceed maximum for most severe offence
  • Example: If act is both theft and mischief, total punishment cannot exceed maximum for theft if theft has higher punishment
  • Prevents excessive punishment for single act constituting multiple offences

8. Consecutive and Concurrent Sentences

8.1 General Rules

10. Computation and Limitation

10.1 Computation of Sentences
